@  IFECOLA, pls stop wasting ur time.  There is no where in the world where Economics as a field is being professionalised. So basically, as a chartered economist, what does the CAMA 1990 permit u to do, what role do u guys intend to play in regulating the Nigerian Economy.
At least ICAN ;to a large extent regulates activities of auditors and has a code of conduct which every accountant in Nigeria must comply with.
CITN deals with tax issues, CIBN - banking, ICSA - corporate Governance, just to mention a few.
I feel Economics is purely academical and  should be left to reseach. Maybe finance, which is an off shoot of Economics, can be professionalised, as its relevant  to the business world.
if u really want to be professional in what u do and of course get a chartered status, then go be an accountant, try ur hands on the ACCA or ICAN qualification, or even go further, with the CFA, CFQ or CISA. The pain of sitting and passing thses exams go a long way in enhancing ur level of professionalism. For example, ACCA has an entiire exam module called "PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNTANT", though i have earlier worked as an accountant back in Nigeria, after passing dat course sometime back, i started seeing things differently. I wonder ur  ICEN can do dat.
PLS NOTE ALSO THAT MY FIRST DEGREE WAS IN ECONOMICS, SO I AINT BIASED.

The world over, economics is generally not a regulated profession. What's the use of a certification when the market does not need one?

Good luck with "touching and feeling" the certificate!

smiley smiley smiley i couldnt agree more, i also studied economics and i read the institute's syllabus back in school, it was basically all we had learnt in school, no value added of anyy sort, so wat makes u chartered if u r only learning wat made u an economist in the first place, economics is not a professional course by nature true and to be sincere,,,ICEN is nottin but a waste of time, if u wanna be a "chartered economist" go do a masters and a phd and then u even have to specialise in one of the numerous branches of economics so at the end of the day u may be, say a "chartered moneterist economist" if there is any such thing, cos new branches keep coming up every day, ever heard of behavioural economics?

I'd read comments made here in 2009 and didn't really feel the need to join ICEN
Upon attending NIGERIA ECONOMICS SOCIETY Colette held in September, 2017, I knew I was at the right place because it was all about research and contributing to national development
Let's not stack up needless (professional) certificates without impacting our world

Please Google professional institute of economists for other countries and compare with search results for societies of economists
