Re: Certification Course/training In Mechanical Engineering In Nigeria by olanajim(m): 3:35pm On Jan 31, 2008
I am not aware of such certification in Nigeria. Maybe some people would bring it on. However, there were trainings in some areas depending on specialisation. Eg. Automobile, Industrial maintanance etc

Mechanical Engineering is very diverse. First of all are you a graduate of Mech Engr? I sincerely doubt if you can get what you are looking for. But you could see certifications in sub-departments under Mech Engr like:- Refrigeration and air conditioning, Industrial safety & management, Metallurgy & Corrosion, Power plant Engr. and so on and so fort.
So you really have to be more specific and have an idea of what interests you. Like olanajim said, mech Engr is very diverse.

Good luck in your endevaours.

That is correct. Beside, if he weren't already a graduate, he should just proceed to Technical school to have a foundation before doing any training. There are good technical school around though. Private ones.

If he is a graduate, he would have to stoop to conquer.

You have said well. After my graduation in 2002, i completed MSC 2006 in Mechanical Engineering (Production and Design). Just to keep my self ON and relevant, i want to first know if there is any certification course in mechanical engineering field in Nigeria before i can now trace my part to being relevant more in Oil and Gas Ind.
Training courses are 2nd option to me really.

Thanks
Paulooo

To be relevant in the oil and gas industry, I believe the basic certifications you would need are:- AUTOCAD, PDMS, IWCF (Well Completion course).A certification in directional drilling will make you a hot cake here.
Also, you may take a look at this link http://btdconline.com/training.asp for more certifications. Its a company that specializies in manpower development for the oil and gas industry. You might see something that interests you.

Its a training for mechanical engineers and civil engineers. u can try finding out more on that cos it is free for few courtesy of ptdf but for personal training, it is very expensive. u can make more enquiries via the web

Hello pauloooo,
Having a certification in mechanical engineering in Nigeria is not yet a reality except u study somewhere abroad and even wen u study abroad u will be adviced to choose a specialisation on which course u want to get certified, maybe CAD, Drafting, Design, Instrumentation, Piping e.t.c.
so i will advice u if possible to get a degree. and concerning PDMS i think its sometin u can learn in Nigeria. atleast u can start from that.

cheers
