The north should have learn from this, whenever they are not happy with the outcome of an election they should just tender their secession bid to aso rock. Approval will surely be faster than the speed of lightning. They should resort to this rather than violence.
@ post, chei see oyinbo man dey vex, they cannot imagine a black man occupying a white house for 8 years. For posterity sake, they allowed a black man to live there for 4 years, now another term, thats just beyond what they can endure.
well, there's a way out, the constitution of america do not allow any state to secede, the american civil war proves this. USA is a federation not a confederation(each state lost its sovereignty when it chose to join the union), but it allows for renunciation of citizenship,so whoever is not happy with obama can renouce his citizenship and can then move to mexico, guatemala or better still china.
Re: Secession Bid Of Texas And Obama's War Options! by Caseless: 11:50am On Nov 14, 2012
If they want to breakout simply becos obama won, then i'm sure they need to present more cogent reason...as this is not enough. Thesame thing happened in the north when gej was declared winner(i wasn't happy anyway), has that changed anything? Infact, lives were lost....so this to me, does not hold water. I heard the governor sayin ' he's not in support of seccession, that he believes in the unity of US'. Texas with their agitations....typical of every oil producing region.

I ain't Obama's supporter nor black hardcor republican as friends calls me. I must say I want to start a petition to help Texas leave that would assure us of less embarrasment in 2016 from the likes of Rick Perry! i hope they are okay with an electricfied fence to keep them out of the USA..and dont bother to call for help against Mexico and natural dissasters.

Damn, that give Texas three rivers (Rio Grande, Sabine and Red) to protect from leeches...

And the plot thickens...

Peacefully grant the city of Austin Texas to withdraw from the state of Texas & remain part of the United States.

Austin Texas continues to suffer difficulties stemming from the lack of civil, religious, and political freedoms imposed upon the city by less liberally minded Texans. It is entirely feasible for Austin to operate as its own state, within the United States, in the event that Texas is successful in the current bid to secede. It is important for Austin to remain in the union as to do so would protect it's citizens' standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers.

We would also like to annex Dublin Texas, Lockhart Texas, & Shiner Texas.

The kind of topics you guys discuss on Nairaland beggars belief. Preposterous and minor issues are discussed exaggeratedly with the kind of seriousness only associated with a bunch of stoners.

Can Texas leave the Union? NO.

Texas Annexation

Questions and Answers

Q: Did the terms of Texas's admission to the Union include permission to withdraw if it found statehood not to its liking?

It is said of Texas (and, occasionally, Vermont) that it received a letter or document of permission to withdraw from the Federal Union if it so chose. In the case of Texas, this permission is sometimes said to have been granted at the time of Texas's admission as a state. Other times it is said to have been included in the terms readmitting Texas to the Union after the Civil War.

In fact, Texas received no special terms in its admission to the Union. Once Texas had agreed to join the Union, she never had the legal option of leaving, either before or after the Civil War.

The early years of the United States had seen a great deal of debate over whether states could, in fact, legally withdraw from the Union. During the War of 1812 it was New England that wanted to secede from the rest of the country. Later, it was the Southern states. Secessionists argued that states were sovereign and had the right to withdraw from the Union. Opponents countered that the Constitution created a sovereign union that, once entered into, could never be broken. Eventually, the question was put to the test and settled permanently on the battlefields of the Civil War.

The Presidential Proclamation declaring peace between the United States and Texas after the Civil War, dated August 20, 1866, states very clearly in the following passage that no state had the right to leave the Union (emphasis added in all capitals):

And whereas,

the President of the United States, by further proclamation issued on the second day of April, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-six, did promulgate and declare, that there no longer existed any armed resistance of misguided citizens, or others, to the authority of the United States in any, or in all the States before mentioned, excepting only the State of Texas, and did further promulgate and declare that the laws could be sustained and enforced in the several States before mentioned, except Texas, by the proper civil authorities, State, or Federal, and that the people of the said States, except Texas, are well and loyally disposed, and have conformed or will conform in their legislation to the condition of affairs growing out of the amendment to the Constitution of the United States, prohibiting slavery within the limits and jurisdiction of the United States;

And did further declare in the same proclamation THAT IT IS THE MANIFEST DETERMINATION OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE THAT NO STATE, OF ITS OWN WILL, HAS A RIGHT OR POWER TO GO OUT OF OR SEPARATE ITSELF FROM, OR BE SEPARATED FROM THE AMERICAN UNION; and that, therefore, each State ought to remain and constitute an integral part of the United States;

On March 30, 1870, Congress passed the Act to admit the State of Texas to Representation in the Congress of the United States. Likewise, this act contains no language that would allow Texas to unilaterally withdraw from the United States.

Bros, u are so damn right, and the plot thickens ...lol grin grin grin grin grin grin

TX is about to start CHAOS, they can't even deal with. Austin has filed, soon other cities will want to withdraw as well. On my way to work this morning, I was listening to 95.5 when I heard a woman was charged with running her husband over because her husband did not vote for Romney, and Romney lost. It was funny, but not funny because the husband could not believe how many people like his wife cannot accept simple defeat. Very shameful.

Rick Perry doesn't support secession petition on White House website
Posted by
CNN's Kevin Liptak

(CNN) – An appeal calling on the federal government to allow Texas to "withdraw from the United States of America" following President Barack Obama's re-election doesn't have the support of the Lone Star State's governor, his office said in a statement Tuesday.

"Gov. [Rick] Perry believes in the greatness of our Union and nothing should be done to change it," his press secretary Catherine Frazier wrote in a statement. "But he also shares the frustrations many Americans have with our federal government."

– Follow the Ticker on Twitter: @PoliticalTicker

The petition, which had received nearly 65,000 signatures by mid-morning Tuesday, cites continuing "economic difficulties stemming from the federal government's neglect to reform domestic and foreign spending" as the reason for the proposed secession.

"Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it's citizens' standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government," asserts the petition, which appears on a section of the White House website called "We the People: Your Voice in our Government."

The section was designed to allow citizens to voice their concerns and desires for the federal government, and stipulates that if a petition gets enough support, "White House staff will review it, ensure it's sent to the appropriate policy experts, and issue an official response."

The threshold for eliciting a White House response is 25,000 signatures within 30 days, meaning the Texas secession appeal has surpassed the requirements for official administration comment. None has yet been forthcoming.

The fine print notes the White House "may decline to address certain procurement, law enforcement, adjudicatory, or similar matters properly within the jurisdiction of federal departments or agencies, federal courts, or state and local government in its response to a petition."

A host of other states have similar petitions on the "We the People" section of the White House website, including South Dakota, West Virginia, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Alaska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Utah, Wyoming, California, Ohio, New York, Delaware, Nevada and Arizona.

None of those petitions were close to the 25,000-signature requirement for a White House comment.

Other petitions on the website take the opposite tack: an appeal to "strip the citizenship from everyone who signed a petition to secede and exile them" had just over 1,000 signatures on Tuesday.

While Perry's statement Tuesday pushed back against a possible move to secede, the Lone Star governor has expressed support for such a shift in the past.

Speaking to an energetic and angry tea party crowd in Austin in 2009, Perry suggested secession may happen in the future should the federal government not change its fiscal polices.

"There's a lot of different scenarios," Perry said. "We've got a great union. There's absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, you know, who knows what might come out of that. But Texas is a very unique place, and we're a pretty independent lot to boot."

During his run for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination, Perry clarified that he never used the word "secession."

Texas, America's second biggest state in area and population, was its own nation for 10 years before joining the United States in 1845.

In the statement from Perry's office Tuesday, Texas is held an example for the rest of the nation for its fiscal responsibility.

"Now more than ever our country needs strong leadership from states like Texas, that are making tough decisions to live within their means, keep taxes low and provide opportunities to job creators so their citizens can provide for their families and prosper," the statement read.

This is purely a myths. I lived and work in a key branch of US government.Texas is a population of 24 million and its needs 2/3 of that population to secede. This is just gimmicks by some selected nuisance. Nothing like it would ever happen.

Mgbadike80: It's on BBC now. How come american big media houses are not broadcasting it? Hypocrites

first ask yourself who are in real in control of American Media? We in the so called third world only heard what the west ( so called developed countries ) want us to hear! Most news items are/were heavily censored even in the US, so don't let anyone fool. When the news of the secession first broken out some are doubting it cause most of mainstay media house in the west don't carry it. But now the enh don turns to gbam and the turns into gbosa! Just alway remember that in every rumour is some level of truth! So our main concern now is what would be the next course of action, someone just point out the possibility of american escalating the mid-east crisis ( which in infact could even Nigeria, Iran or any other country) in order to diverst their citizen attention or thing like that. The biggest evil in the world today is american goverment drunk for world dominance...
