Not new. There are others who have done worse things - we read them, seen them, heard about them. Before these guys emerged, the Bible has warned that we should watch out for people who are overtly concerned with materialism as the focus of their ministries (Col. 2:8; 2 Pet. 3:17). So what is new about this case that we have not seen or heard of before? |
Re: Kenneth Copeland Fleecing Some Simple And Gullible Christians by therationa(m): 11:51am On Feb 18, 2008 |
True, nothing new. But they still pull the crowd and audiences who get fleeced. What is wrong with warning people against the likes of the Copelands? That was the point of my post. |

@therationa God draws good out of our evils. News like this teach us HOW NOT TO SEEK/WORSHIP God. We become wiser in the process, though the process is painful. |
Re: Kenneth Copeland Fleecing Some Simple And Gullible Christians by stimulus(m): 12:48pm On Feb 18, 2008 |
@therationa, therationa: And. . .? therationa: Did you READ what I said earlier? Again: stimulus: There are several warnings in the Bible that people are asked to watch out against - and materialism/fleecing ministries/prosperity gospels are NOT THE ONLY issues that those warnings have been made against. Infact, another verse that directly warns against greed for materialism is this: Luke 12:15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. May I remind you that believers have also been warned against the kind of exercises and attempts characteristic of your several threads. A few of such warnings: Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. Now therationa, I'd like you to understand something. When you raise threads questioning the claims of theistic beliefs (especially Christianity), the reason why we have tried to offer answers is to share the rationale for our convictions - just as Peter says: 1 Pet. 3:15-16 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ. Many times, you will find that the sort of arguments that you have put forward do not lead to the persuasion that you were looking for genuine and intelligent discussions - else, we would have seen you stay your ground and be able to rationally and reasonably defend your assumptions. However, we offer answers to help you see that even when Christians are accused of all sorts of things under the sun, the accusers really should examine their own hearts! The goal is that we may all come through with clear consciences and understand that being a Christian does no harm to anybody. Would you examine your conscience and reconsider the love and grace in Jesus Christ? |

@therationa, The tele-evangelists Kenneth Copeland and his wife are being subjected to a congressional investigation about their ministry and the charges of deception. Watch this;I don't know what your point is by making public what is already known by a lot of people. Personally, I think the Congressman has overstepped his authority and I am glad that Creflo Dollar is fighting him over this even though the other five ministries have submitted all the documents he requested to him. What business does a congressman have teaching doctrine? If he feels stongly that the Bible message is not being preached, he should go set up his own church and teach doctrine. Going on national T.V. declaring that Jesus' Disciples have no business flying planes when Jesus rode on a donkey is absolutely a doctrinal position which he cannot enforce on others through the office of a senator. As for the private use of the plane, I see absolutely nothing wrong with it, especially considering the fact that he pays for the use of the plane whenever he has to use it for a private purpose. Let me give you an example. He was in our church last year after which he headed to Singapore for preaching. After his meeting in our church he headed straight to Hawaii for a vacation using of course, the plane. His vacation time fell between ministry work that are continents apart and it only makes sense that he uses the plane to Hawaii after which he headed to Singapore. And for those who don't know, he paid all the expenses associated with the plane's use to Hawaii. This much the new people will never tell you. For the prayer requests, no one in their right senses expects the Copelands to read all that mail. Have you ever seen most ministries who address letters on T.V.? The minister hardly opens anything but still prays over them. His reading the letter doesn't answer the prayers. If all the Copelands do is address all the letters they receive during their prayer time, that will be more than sufficient. The letters coming in only help the faith of those who sent it. As for the guy in the report. Am I the only one who thinks he shouldn't be reading letters without prior authorisation? I think the guy should be investigated for probably opening and reading unauthorised mails. It is obvious that he is pissed of that things were not done his way. Someone should please let him know that he is not the administrator of Kenneth Copeland Ministries. |

Why are people happy when they see poor christians? The man is very rich and so what? If you think he is fooling people to get the money, why don't you try same to get your own kudi. I beg leave the guy alone. Furthermore, its only very rich guy that can attract the attention of the congress, boy the guy is so loaded that the state is afraid of him. God can bless you so much that people will envy you - it is biblical. |

@olorioko, Furthermore, its only very rich guy that can attract the attention of the congress, boy the guy is so loaded that the state is afraid of him.The guy actually gave our church a plane about 4 weeks ago. Talk about being a giver. |

Why don't your church sell the plane and give the money to the poor, like Jesus would have done. Remember Jesus asking the rich to sell their possessions and give the money to the poor. Talk about following in Jesus's footsteps. http://forum.nigeriantimesinternational.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=d39fb5d233c8b3542fee740bda6d484f&topic=2413.0 |

@therationa, Why don't your church sell the plane and give the money to the poor, like Jesus would have done. Remember Jesus asking the rich to sell their possessions and give the money to the poor.As if you know more of what Jesus would do than we do. Tell me, is it every rich man that jesus told to give all their possessions to the poor? You miss Jesus' point altogether. The only reason why he made that request of that particular rich man is so to reveal the covetousness in his heart. And by the way, do you know what happens when you give? You'll receive more of what you gave. Talk about following in Jesus's footsteps.Jesus did everything within His power and used every means available in his days by land and sea to preach the gospel. If the ploane helps to preach, so be it, we will make use of it. We are gonna get the Gospel out by every means possible through every voice available. |

Kenneth Copeland and wife may be fake (as some think ~ i cant verify that yet) but that does not mean the message of prosperity is sinful or carnal as the bible itself says that money is a defense and that it answereth to all things. No money no gospel to the uttermost part of the earth! The bible also says that Christ wsas rich, but for our sakes, he became poor, so that through his poverty, we might become rich. ~ i hope u people dont think the bible only refers to spiritual riches here? If you think so, then you are mischievous. On another note, you cant be preaching the message of prosperity and be wearing rags. They dont jive. If you preach prosperity (body and soul) that Christ teaches, you cant be only rich spiritually and be a pauper! They would ask you, PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH~ God bless. |
