Southern Kaduna youths have resolved to support Governor Mukhtar Yero of Kaduna State and his deputy, Ambassador Nuhu Bajoga after their initial agitation for a young, new breed politician from the area to occupy the position.

Southern Kaduna Local Government chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria and Youth Wing of the Southern Kaduna People’s Union, SOKAPU, said at a news conference, yesterday, that they had decided to put the past behind them and support the governor and his deputy.

Chairman of the council, Danjuma Sarki, who spoke at the conference along with the youth coordinator of SOKAPU, Mr. Sabestine Luka, said they decided to sheathe their sword over the controversy that trailed the selection of Bajoga.

He added that in spite of the agitations, Governor Yero had the constitutional right to appoint his deputy following the death of Governor Patrick Yakowa in a helicopter crash last month.

They said the youths had far-reaching discussions with the elders who explained why Bajoga was the best choice.

He said: “Ours was an agitation and as you know the constitutional right to select a deputy governor clearly lies with the governor. He can appoint who he deems fit and who he wants to work with.”

“Ours was an agitation to be heard so that our demand can be met. But nevertheless, of all the agitation and expressions that took place, we were consulted and there were several meetings and discussions.

“As democrats and as people who believe in the leadership ability of our elders, and as youths who respect elders, we felt that since the elders consulted with us and gave us their reasons, there was no need for us to continue with the agitation.”
