Casual leave is a kind of imprumtu leave, these occure when situation that you did not espect to absent yourself from duty. While annual leave is the type that you plan for, and write to go for it.

As an employee, you are entitled to 7days Casual leave in a year and also an annual leave. The duration for you annual leave is dependent upon you level/position in the job.

Your casual leave should take care of some of your off duty requests. That is, if you request for a day off and it is granted, u will have 6 remaining casual leave. Once u exhaust your casual leave, the management may chose to either debit your salary account any extra day you exempted yourself from work which will be calculated with your per day pay, or they may chose to deduct those days from your annual leave.

If you went ahead to exhaust you annual leave through casual leave (though this is a rare situation), you will no longer be entitled to annual leave for that year. You will only be entitled to ur leave allowance.

If your HR told you that the company will be deducting your casual even when you have not exceeded ur annual casual leave is wrong. He may be doing that cos the company does not have Staff Union.

Normally is public service, casual leave is for seven working days

You can brake it into two and take 3 days then later in the year you take the remaining 4 days. Better still you can take the 7 days at a stretch

It's different from annual leave

But for private company, they might adopt a system that will favour them since they are out to make profits

Casual leave is 5 days in a year. And it can be taken during emergency situations ONLY IF you have exhausted your Annual leave. Casual leave cannot be taken more than 2 days at a stretch.


May differ from organisation to organisation
