TITLE: COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
LOCATION: Lagos

JOB DESCRIPTION:
INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS
• Promoting and supporting the maintenance of dynamic content on the intranet home page, and business/firm news pages.
• Supporting wider projects as directed by the External Relations Manager, e.g. developing, editing and launching of new intranet pages.

WEB / INTRANET CONTENT
• Keeping both the web and intranet pages up to date with the Group’s latest information. Therefore, the role holder needs to have basic skills in Content Management Service systems like Wordpress and Joomla.
• Coordinating annual content update programs to whole sections of the website and intranet.
• Ad hoc updates such as biographies (including leavers and joiners), and amendment to intranet and website pages.

DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS / TROUBLE SHOOTING
• Taking briefings from around the company as to required improvements to the website and intranet
• Coordinating the delivery of our intranet and web development projects
• Logging, prioritizing and following up on any intranet and web issues with our suppliers.

CO-ORDINATION
• Running web and intranet meetings with our business unit representatives within the Group

PRESS RELATIONS
• Collating, recording and disseminating all press coverage
• Keeping the media areas of the website up to date

QUALIFICATION AND REQUIREMENTS
•Minimum of OND in Social Sciences with at least of 2 years working experience
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and in writing
• Great interpersonal and analytical skills.
• Ability to plan and manage projects effectively from start to finish
• A firm ‘expert’ in appropriate web systems e.g. Wordpress and Joomla
• Able to use Adobe Photoshop and/or PaintShopPro as well as Google Picasa to manipulate photography as appropriate.
• Broad understanding of corporate communications and the roles and responsibilities of different team members.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Plan, develop and implement a variety of human resource functions to support the attainment of the Company/department goals and objectives. Assist in the resolution of human resource issues and promote enhanced organizational efficiency, communication and understanding. Also, to take an active role in understanding business issues, recommend and develop approaches and programs to address them in addition to delivering efficient and effective HR administrative support services.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Female professionals will have added advantage.
Minimum of Bachelors Degree in Human Resource, Business Administration, Psychology or related discipline.
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in senior positions preferably in reputable FCMG, automobile or consulting multicultural environment:
Demonstrated competency in computer applications for Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point.
Able to effectively communicate and build relationship at all levels within the Company and the Group
Ability to work effectively with others and be a participative team player
Professional membership of CIPMN is essential.

COMPENSATION:
Salary and benefits attached to this position is competitive.

Bloody hell. The HR vacancy is soooo ridiculous! You need female applicants, 35 - 45 with 10 years' experience! I've seen mid-level managerial jobs asking for 100 - 200 years worth of experience. I mean, that's discriminatory on so many levels. When unemployment is on the rise, the education system is a shamble and everything else is based on who-knows-who, you make the job market unreachable for some. In the UK (I know there are differences before you bite my head off!) a minimum of 1 - 3 years of experience would be ideal with the position open to ANY competent applicant.

Well, I guess such method of screening unsuccessful candidates is effective and efficient but isn't it time the job market was redesigned to allow a large pool of candidates to apply for available vacancies?

Madness! So if you were to appoint a 35 - 45 year old, you do not place emphasis on succession planning. This means that your recruitment policy remains rather cyclical with the same requirements. Get them young and at their utmost potential, train them to become leaders of tomorrow and plan your succession and talent management thoroughly. If a 35 - 45 were to be in such a position, they wouldn't last that long in the long run because they'd more likely to leave the firm at their discretion. Then the cost of recruiting, the time taken to recruit and the whole recruitment process once again becomes a drag. Young people with limited experience always value an opportunity to prove themselves and in the UK there are young professionals occupying relatively mid or senior positions because they are seen as the leaders of tomorrow and they learn on the job as well as undergo training as required. That way, they are rewarded accordingly and are motivated to remain with the company in the long run. I cannot say the same for the candidates with 10 - 200 years because they already have all the experience and exposure needed and once something comes up elsewhere they'll be the first to leave the firm.

The government should do more to develop attractive candidates and this can be achieved via the education system, government-sponsored work experience schemes and industry-wide initiatives to attract potential candidates with little or no emphasis on their age, sex, values and beliefs and any other factor that might allow room for discrimination.

But obviously certain practices work best in different legal, institutional and political contexts but I think the Nigerian labour market should prove competitive by overhauling the traditional way of recruiting and strengthen the competitiveness of the labour market by introducing and monitoring the application of stringent labour laws.

The way MNCs currently recruit candidates will not be beneficial for the country.
