The pension boss will also forfeit property. An Abuja High Court has sentenced a former head of the Police Pension Board, Yakubu Yusuf, to two years in prison. He pleaded guilty to the embezzlement of N23.3 billion and is to forfeit property valued at N325 million. He was given an option of N250 thousand to avoid the jail sentence. Na wa o. Just two (2) years for embezzling 23 billion naira meant for Pensioners? Hundreds if not thousands of former policemen who have put their life on the line fighting hardened criminals here and there will have die as a result of untold hardship meted out on them trying to get their deserved Pay. Does anyone know if he's been made to cough up the money he stole? If not, this is just a slap on his fat wrist. All this money you're hearing of involved in all sorts of scams and deals is just a tip off the iceberg, and as a country we've lost billions of dollars since the 70's to date, in all sorts of scams, deals and outright thieving by public officials who seek employment not to serve, but for the sole purpose of primitive accumulation of wealth; they get these positions on the basis of man-know-man, federal character and quota system......a state just doesn't have the human resources required, yet they somehow manage to find someone just to fill their own quota......and this person will now go on to work in a federal job that affects the lifes of all of us! The amazing thing is that this country is still standing inspite of all this corruption running into hundreds of billions if dollars; 23 billion naira is just what one man stole out of hundreds of thousands of public officials we've had since the early 70's, so do the math. 4 Likes |

The Nigerian Judiciary is in a total mess. Just 2yrs imprisonment for N23.3billion theft? God have mercy! Who knows how much the Judge collected from him. Little wonder corruption is growing in a geometric progression in Nigeria. One can loot billions and wait for judgement to take its course then less than 1% of the looted fund settles it. |
