Microsoft Office 2013 To Be Launched January 29th by dewale2k: 6:30pm On Jan 28, 2013
Microsoft has confirmed that it will launch Office 2013 on January the 29th.

According to a tweet from the Office team, and a #Timeto365 campaign/hashtag which was seen via Winbeta.org, it can now be confirmed that it is no longer a rumour that the Windows maker is “launching” the new Microsoft Office a.k.a Office 2013 on Tuesday in Bryant Park, New York and it would be generally available via retail channels.

Microsoft released Office 2013 to manufacturing on October 11, 2012. The company made the final bits available to MSDN and TechNet subscribers, as well as volume-licencing customers, before the end of last year. Recently, Microsoft made $10 versions of the final Office 2013 bits available to volume licencees with Software Assurance as part of its Home Use Programme.

Microsoft officials have been saying for a couple of months that a particular IT company planned to make the final bits commercially available in the first calendar quarter of 2013.

The company already has taken the wraps off some of its Office 2013 SKUs, and will be pushing a new, subscription-centric version of Office that it has named Office 365 Home Premium.

Unlike the other Office 365 SKUs, the Home Premium version isn’t a Microsoft-hosted version of Office. Instead, it’s downloadable, locally installable versions of the Office 2013 products for which users will be charged a monthly or annual “rental” fee. For that subscription fee, users will have the right to install Office 2013 and/or the Office for Mac 2011 SKUs on up to five PCs and Macs in total.

Microsoft officials also have said that the “real” Office 365 update should be available around the time of the client launch. Microsoft officials have been prepping the company’s reseller/integrator partners for the Office 365 refresh for the past couple of weeks.

What's special about Microsoft 2013?

Personally, as far as Microsoft is concerned, i don't care the version as long as it's not older than the 2003 version because i don't even know all the features in it's disposal.

most microsoft 2013 be special to you before it has relevance?

You are too backward, because Microsoft Office 2003 cannot open recent Office documents that added "x" to all their previous file format e.g. Afam4eva.docx

That's why a lot of people save their office documents in a 2003 format so that they can open it anywhere. Even though i use Microsoft Office 2007 at the moment, i save most of my documents for 2003.

True. The addition of that extra "X" is just super confusing for me though I use 2007, I still revert to 2003.

I've been using it and I must say it's awesome....I've used only microsoft word and I must say it's very ok....if you want to write a résumé or any other thing, there's a predefined format there which you can edit.....you can go online to get samples directly related to whatever you want to type....and many more....

Really? well I don't use Word all that much. But the 2010 version of excel is pretty cool, especially the right click pasting options. But to be honest the difference between 2007 and 2010 versions is rather marginal.

I think 2013 is better because I have been using it for about 6months now...the only problem one might have would be that it is heavily dependent on the internet, creating an online account, etc...although you can use it offline like the normal Word but it might not be complete etc...However, I trust Alaba boys n computer villagers will find a way around dat one for sure grin

Office 2003 still remains the best of all Microsoft Office. The rest after that are just trash and always crashing ones documents. You can't rely on them.

If office 2013 is best used when you are online, then, its no good for the common man, especially the average Nigerian. Considering the poor internet service we have in this country. Really, I saw it coming, Microsoft with their tricks again. 2003 was great, 2007 was better, I saw a lot of changes, especially in the environment. With the introduction of the office button to replace the usual 'File menu' in 2003 and the introduction of the large ribbon to replace the numerous toolbars in 2003, these features and more made 2007 a wonderful experience. But when I saw 2010, I was really disappointed. No significant difference from 2007, they only changed the office button in 2007 back to the 'File menu' in 2003 and add one new tool under the insert tab that allows a user to capture an environment and add it to a document. That wasn't new to me, I've been using the 'PrintSrn' key to achieve that before. When I heard that 2013 was coming out, I wondered what trick Microsoft will bring up this time, like I guessed, the trick is simple: there is really nothing to add at the offline level, hence the online features. I will install it and teach my students, but I may not frequently use it for my personal jobs. I like my office 2007, it's unique for me, besides, I dont have to worry about docx files.

I hope you know MS does not make money of single users like you and me when they sell their MS suites. They do so by selling in volumes to PC OEMs, so watch out the next dell Alienware you buy or the next Sony, Samsung pc will have MS2013 wink
