Some Nigerian Criminal And Rogue Judges Retired; 2 Others Escape

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended the immediate retirement of three rogue judges during an emergency meeting of the body late last night.

"The highest judicial regulatory body in Nigeria has acceded to the compulsory retirement of justices Abubakar Talba, Thomas D Naron and Charles Archibong," said a Supreme Court source early today.

The first of the three judges, Justice Talba was recommended for retirement following public outcry that greeted his ruling granting a police pension thief, Yakubu Yusufu, a $1,500 fine after he pleaded guilty to grand theft of $203 million.

A second high court judge, Justice Naron was controversially involved in a series of scandalous election tribunal cases, especially in Osun state, where the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) attorney, Kunle Kalejaiye (SAN) had extensive personal contact with the judge during the 2007 election tribunal case involving Olagunsoye Oyinlola of the PDP.

The NJC last night directed the Nigeria Bar Association to deal with Mr. Kalejaiye's case through its Legal Practitioners’ Disciplinary Committee.

Justice Archibong was sanctioned by the NJC for some scandalous judgements including the case involving Nigeria's renowned rogue banker, Erastus Akingbola.

The NJC was silent on the cases of two other rogue judges, Mr. Ibrahim Buba, the judge that granted a permanent injunction restraining the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from arresting, questioning or interrogating former governor Peter Odili of Rivers State as well as Mr. Justice Marcel Awokulehin, the judge who cleared former governor James Ibori of all fraud charges in 2009.

Talk about pooling from the vast majority of corrupt judges in Nigeria, these fellows have been chosen as scape goats....probably something to do with politics. There's no way I'd believe these are the only corrupt judges out there.
BTW, what is up with that wig for heaven's sake...they look like the slave enforcers of King Philip's court of england, 1800's

Recommending them for retirement is not the best;the judicial council should have a gravier means of santioning,i think.
Re: Three Controversial Judges To Be Retired by crackhaus: 12:24pm On Feb 21, 2013
For the sake of credibility & transparency, every single judge that has given a light ruling regarding political office holders involved in looting should also be dealt with by the NJC, that way I'll know they're serious...(especially that one that acquitted James Ibori)

Y is nobody mentioning investigation& prosecution of these criminal judges? After d retirement, won't dey go back to their communities& become power brokers bc of their criminally acquired wealth,bc nobody seems interested in your source of wealth in dis country. As long as these judges get to enjoy any amount of wealth dey may av acquired to pervert d course of justice, their retirement to me is an endorsement& wud further encourage other so inclined judges, but d new set wud set their prices higher to well cater for their retirement if they are also so forced.

Re: Three Controversial Judges To Be Retired by COOLDUN: 12:42pm On Feb 21, 2013
This is nothing but a promotion to their higher ranks while 3 or 4 other criminals will take over their offices so that the crime continues. Total overhauling of the judicial arms of the Nigeria government is imminent. Before the year runs out we shall all see another block buster Nollywood comedy from the new saints.
Re: Three Controversial Judges To Be Retired by EagleNest(m): 12:45pm On Feb 21, 2013
How come it took NJC such a long time to cage these Judges?
They should be barred from court premises for life.
Their judgements are unbelievable
