This Rent-A-Crowd of thousands to advance political agenda and the NGO's turned professional crowd renters, with the poverty stricken crowd whose values and principles have been compromised, all with no choice but to embrace their conquerors(rogue leaders) for peanuts depicts the dysfunctional state we are in.
To Dame Jonathan: I wonder if some people truly deserve a second chance at life?! The FCT minister is just a lightfingered charlatan!

That is always the case in Nigeria. I still remember one million man match for abacha. I still remember the dancing parade for OBJ's third term bid. What else do you expect from a wasteful government like the one we have today in Nigeria?

Crowd Protest In Support Of N4b AFLPM House

Women, youth and physically challenged persons yesterday protested in favour of the proposed construction of the N4 billion African First Ladies Peace Mission House in the 2013 appropriation of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The protesters thronged the No 1 Capital Street Secretariat of the FCTA as early as 8am yesterday, wearing T-shirts and fez caps with the inscription “FCT is working” on them.

Some of them carried placards with several inscriptions including, “Soyinka; educated illiterate, Fashola; consultant governor, Soyinka; Grammar king without sense and Nigerian women support Africa First Ladies Peace Mission.”

LEADERSHIP recalls that the proposal by the FCTA to undertake the building of the AFLPM house at the cost of N4 billion was met with a string of criticisms from many Nigerians, some of whom described the project as uncalled for and a misplaced priority.
Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka had in a protest in Lagos, on Valentine’s Day added his voice to the trail of criticisms, saying the proposal was unconstitutional and mind boggling.

Before yesterday’s protest, the FCTA had earlier risen in defence of the proposal, saying the construction of all public buildings in Abuja was its responsibility and the AFLPM house was no exception.

During the protest yesterday, unlike in the past when protesters are barred from coming close to the gates of the FCTA secretariat, the pro AFLPM house protesters were received in the FCTA premises by the minister, Senator Bala Mohammed.

FCT Chairman of the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Nancy Bulus who spoke on behalf of the protesters argued that the AFLPM house will apart from enhancing the aesthetics of the city, give Nigeria a place of pride in the comity of nations and provide a platform for women’s voices to be heard in the continent and globally.

“We want that secretariat in this Abuja, in Nigeria as the giant of Africa; this is a unique project that all Nigerian women want. So we want the National Assembly to pass that budget. They should know that women of Nigeria want this secretariat and it has to be built by this administration. It is not an elite project,” she said.

Addressing the protesters, the minister insisted that the AFLPM house is an embassy of the African Union which would enhance the diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and other countries in Africa.

He noted that Decree No. 6 of 1976 that created Abuja also simultaneously created the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), with a duty and responsibility to plan, design, provide the infrastructure and construct public buildings as well as services to the entire 8,000 square kilometers of the FCT, adding that to live up to its international obligation and a diplomatic practice based on reciprocity, “we must not shy away from our responsibility.”

The protesters also presented letters addressed to President Goodluck Jonathan, the Senate President, Senator David Mark and the Speaker of the House of Representative, Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal to the minister, which he promised to deliver on their behalf.

This is exactly what happens when the middle-class act as if they are less concerned with what happens in the country.

Instead of us hitting the streets to demand that Farouk, Maina and others be brought to justice, the government is staging a protest to support her corruption.

By the way, these dudes dont look like they know that they are protesting about. undecided

In Nigeria, na government they protest. Na wa ooo. embarassed

This is what you get when people from particular segment of country head the affair of the nation. It is more reason why they've being denied the opportunity because some greedier knows their fellow greediest. Having envisage today event, am afraid this will be the last taste of SS and SE presidency before the nation brake out.

Come off it, even the dog on the street knows this National sport transcends our ethnic-religious divide.

During my time as a struggling student, even I was presented with an opportunity to earn £35/hour as a pro-government demonstrator, by intermediaries operating in the mistaken belief that my scruples could be bought.

How on earth do you come to this conclusion of people from a particular segment of the country? All I saw were just black men and women of all sizes and shapes and no stamps on their forehead.
Unless you got a different picture than this one we are all looking at?

What i mean is that there is level of curruption to be measure by regions.
If Jona region doesnt belong to this class of curuption, there wont be staging of protest in support of anti people project. This show the worth of the president when it come to curruption, and his family wont say anything because is truely reflecting what they stand for.
hope i open your eyes.

Jas_o, you are usually on point but wrong here. All that this reinforces is the notion that Nigerians must thoroughly and exhaustively scrutinise who they vote into very influential positions. With this talk, you are joining the supremacists and bigots who think others are unfit yet they and their kinsmen are 'gifted'. GEJ was simply the wrong choice same as Oyinlola and Alao-Akala would also be wrong choices to lead Nigeria.

Good leadership skills, or the lack of it, has nothing to do with ethnicity. If you think about it, in 150-200 years we will probably be so mixed, Igbo, Ijaw, Yoruba et al may be meaningless tags. We simply have to embrace, as the rest of the world has done, the idea of looking individually at the history of those who wish to lead.

Pointless embracing sentiments to choose mediocre leaders and then going on to blame all manner of extraneous considerations for their poor showing when it was always very obvious, had we shunned sentiments and done our homework, that they were not good leaders to begin with.

Yea bro. Same tribe organised the 2 million man march for Abacha, formed the 5 political parties that adopted Abacha, sold out their presidential candidate Ribadu at the dying minute, organised all pro third term activities for OBJ etc.

By the way, nothing in the pictures to support the topic.

True. This woman is simply shameless. A very crude first lady and a total disgrace. There is nothing, however insensitive and puerile, she will not ask her "don't give a damn" husband to indulge her with. Whether it is becoming an undeserving permanent secretary or bullying Turai Yar Adua over choice Abuja land already allocated to the latter, our first lady is simply shameless and without the capacity to appreciate what is offensive to Nigerians and disgraceful to Nigeria.

Ok, what I meant was, how do you know that those protesting are from Jonathan's tribe? If you are not a Nigerian, you could have easily concluded that the two biggest of his cheering paid leaders in Abati and Okupe are from his region too. Many Nigerian rich people are damn greedy and many of their poor are damn hungry, so they will do anything to have some of the ill gotten cash floating about, irrespective of region or tribe. When Daniel Kanu, Arisokola Alao and the likes of Adedibu were organising the Abacha for life match, were they doing it simply because they came from Abacha's region?

Nothing surprises me again but one thing I still find difficult to understand is why are we not doing anything. Jonathan government seems to be on a mission to run this Nation aground but we watch as if we are absolutely helpless. In my book OBJ government is the most corrupt in our recent past but Jonathan seems to be breaking all records and his government is just 2 years old.

Why would any sane individual support this, its just a complete waste of money and does not benefit Nigeria in anyway. The goals they are trying to accomplish are already in existence through numerous government and private programs. This is the unnecessary overhead and wasteful spending that keeps Nigeria at a third world state. That 4 billion can easily fund the current public and private programs instead of wasting it on a useless building. Nigeria, the world's number 1 producer of useless politicians.

Also when was the last time a PUBLIC protest had time to print thousands of "fct is working" shirts and thousands of green FCT hats. Just Compare this to the Fuel subsidy removal protest and you'll see whats wrong.
