The Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, on Monday called for the arraignment of former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo for genocide.
In a statement made available to Vanguard, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Engr. Rotimi Fashakin said Obasanjo should be charged for crime against humanity and violation of human rights before the International Court of Justice, ICC, as he gave the order for the invasion of Odi community.
Fashakin said:”As a Party, it is our belief that there is no amount of monetary compensation that can fully assuage the sense of colossal loss of these hapless communities, whose rights to life was indecently trampled upon by the PDP-led Federal Government of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
”It is equally our belief that, with the establishment of the intent and content of the invasion as genocidal, the course of Justice is best served if the head of the government at the material time, that is, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, is formally arraigned before the International Criminal Court (ICC) for the crime of genocide.
“The wider implication of the arraignment shall be the institution of constitutional order and decency among the ruling elite so that the inalienable rights of the people to personal liberty and justice shall remain sacrosanct.
According to the statement, “In Article 5(1a) of the statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC), genocide is a crime under the jurisdictional purview of the Court. Furthermore, Article 6 (a-c) of the same statute reads thus: For the purpose of this Statute, “genocide” means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:
(a) Killing members of the group;
(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.
The statement further indicted the PDP of over-using of the military in civil matters, including elections, protests and exercising democratic rights by citizens for over 13 years of being in power.

Yorubas have alwas been against OBJ thats why he cant even win his Local Govt. Thats why his daughter lost the Senatorial elections

Achebe wants the same for who? maybe Achebe should first submit himself for trial together with Ojuku for punishing Biafran children

Buhari may think we have forgotten how he brutalized Nigerian democrats when he seized power. He should be tried too! That's my challenge with all this APC, CPC story. Has Buhari really changed? Is he looking for power to develop Nigeria or does he just want to gain power in order to punish perceived enemies?

May be when hell freezes over. I am yet to see any with the balls to drag him to ICC, possibly when we get to have forthright leaders with no skeleton in their closet then those with past misdeeds can be made to account for their sins!

Northern Governors Forum Salute Obasanjo At 76

The Northern governors paid tribute to the former Nigerian President

The Northern States Governors Forum has paid tribute to former President Olusegun Obasanjo who clocked 76 on Tuesday.

The governors said that the former Nigerian leader has lived a life of service to Nigeria and humanity.

The Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Niger State, Mu’azu Aliyu, said Mr. Obasanjo remains the reference point for good governance, statesmanship, diplomacy, conflict resolution and prudent management of resources.

In a statement, the Northern governors said Nigeria is lucky to have former President Obasanjo at every turn in the march to nationhood.

The forum recalled that Mr. Obasanjo had a distinguished carrier in the military and then went on to become Head of State and later democratically elected president, during which period he showed rare vision, courage and exemplary leadership.

“It is no longer news that in 1976, destiny beckoned on General Obasanjo to become Nigeria’s Head of State, an era that ushered in huge developmental drive in our journey to nationhood and in the exercise of greatness, he voluntarily relinquished power and handed it over to a civilian administration in 1979.

He returned to the presidency in 1999 from the verge of death to the flourishing tree of democracy he planted, this time as the gardener and the nourisher,” the governor’s said in the statement.

The governors poured more encomiums on Mr. Obasanjo saying he left legacies in all sectors of the economy.

They said they are proud to be associated with the achievements of the former leader, especially his contribution to the deepening of the nation’s fledgling democracy.

The governors prayed that God grant Mr. Obasanjo excellent health, courage and many more years of selfless service to Nigeria and humanity

I am from Oyo State and I can see the difference from when Alao Akala was governor

As starters we dont have NURTW thugs killing everyone in the streets of Ibadan

Its malicious and false for anyone to claim that in Oyo state for example there has been no difference

Lets go to Osun How can anyone see the road constructions going on and still claim there is no difference? Was the previous PDP govt blind to see that they needed road in Osun instead of taking loans for 6 world class stadiums?

And the way it is in every SW state

While we are at Arraigning people for past malfeasance, we should also remind CPC to strongly URGE the Authorities to also arraign their leader, our Oga General Buhari, for his Crime against the Nigerian State, Constitution, Democracy and Decency, in leading and been the CHIEF BENEFICIARY of an illegal change in Govt (COUP D'ETAT) punishable by DEATH when caught.

I fully support holding OBJ to his terrible decisions, but my conscience also demands that I also ask same for the General.

REAL JUSTICE IS FAIRNESS

Unfortunately for you ICC is not a biased organisation, those to be tried will include Ojukwu (post humous), Achebe and many other biafran leaders for their act or ommission to act which resulted in the death of many biafrans.
