Eagles battle Mexico May 31 in Texas

African champions Nigeria will clash with Mexico in a high-profile friendly in Houston, Texas, USA on May 31.

“The Nigeria Football Federation and its Match Agent, Eurodata Sport Marketing Sportivo e Culturale, are pleased to announce that the Super Eagles will play against Mexico’s Senior Team in a friendly match at the Reliant Stadium, Houston, Texas on Friday, May 31, starting from 9pm Texas time,” NFF general secretary Musa Amadu said on Wednesday.

He added: “We are pleased that the reigning African champions will have such high-quality final preparation for the important games that we have in the month of June.”

The last time both countries met was in a battling friendly inside the Estadio Olimpico Benito Juarez in Chihuahua, Mexico in October 2007 – it ended in a 2-2 draw.

The Super Eagles, currently top of their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying group, take on Kenya’s Harambee Stars in Nairobi on June 8 before travelling to the FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil.

Then, another FIFA World Cup qualifying date against Namibia’s Brave Warriors awaits in Windhoek.

In Brazil, the Eagles play against Tahiti, Uruguay and World and European champions Spain while the Mexicans clash with host Brazil, Italy and Japan in Group A.

The match in Texas will be the third of a five-match American tour for the Mexicans, who also face daunting dates in CONCACAF’s 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying race in June.

The NFF has said that their goal is to have the Super Eagles on the first top 10 FIFA ranking before the end of this year. This is definitely a step in the right direction.
Looking forward to more quality friendlies. But Super Eagles matches plenty for June sha.

No worldclass stadium jor. Abuja? Weeds. Calabar? Fit for shell cup. Heard one of the Lagos stadia is in good shape sha, but guess NFF is scared of the Lagos mob in case Eagles dont perform.

Confederations cup in Brazil? Does that make any sense now? wink If not let me spell it out : Acclimatization.
Mexico though in North America shares the same climate with most of Latin America.

If and only if Keshi and NFF could adequately motivate Eagles and the Eagles commit themselves fully towards making a mark, they wouldnt only perform well at the Confederation Cup but will also qualify for the next Worldcup.Wishing them the best!

Exactly! I'll be surprised if Mexico does not beat and if we don't get disgraced at the Confederations' cup.

Emenike, Moses and Kalu will not be around for the friendly and the Confederations' cup.

I will finally submit to Keshi as a good coach if his team performs in the coming games.
