Kano Bombings: Give Weapons To Igbos For Self-defence - Ezeife by fkaz(m): 7:45am On Mar 28, 2013
FORMER governor of the old Anambra State, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, on Wednesday, called on the Federal Government to immediately equip the Igbo people with weapons to defend themselves against aggression and their wanton killings in the Northern part of the country.
Apparently referring to the recent bombings of buses carrying Igbo traders to Lagos allegedly by the Boko Haram sect in Kano, Ezeife said that the government should forget about the warning to the Igbo against carrying arms and other self defence equipment, but must now recognize the special needs of the Igbo in Northern Nigeria to defend themselves.
He said that the President, Police, Army and other security agencies should now clearly understand and fully accept the compelling need for the Igbo to be in a position to defend themselves anywhere they are in large numbers.
Should the Federal Government refuse to hearken to the urgent call, the ex-Governor admonished the Igbo to personally and/ or collectively acquire whatever they need for group self defence . “as it is better for the Igbo to be charged with carrying guns than to be killed with insult”.
Ezeife however cautioned that the weapons so acquired by the Igbo for self defence must not be put to offensive use and reiterated that nobody or group of persons should feel intimidatedthat the Igbo equip themselves for group self defence.
The practical way to implement this, according to him, was the creation of special vigilante or security groups which would be adequately equipped to prevent attacks and deal with attacks they cannot prevent so that the people could help themselves.

The message Ezeife is passing across is that the Government has failed in its primary responsibility of protecting the citizenry this failure however did not start today .

A case in mind is the police killing unarmed and defenseless tax payers like the Ozu River 50 and the MASSOB members .Simply put if the Police and soldiers can no longer protect the citizenry in the northern states particularly in Plateau where innocent villagers are massacred on a daily basis , Borno , Adamawa , kano e.t.c the Government should then use tax payers money to provide protective gears like Bomb detection equipment , bullet proof vests and munitions for self defense to the Citizenry who are tax payers.

Anybody who thinks otherwise should relocate to plateau and see for himself what the gullible ,naive and stupid Plateau people are passing through in their hopeless belief in one united Nigeria

You guys should pay attention when an elder is talking.

The man is talking indirectly to our Northern "brothers" that we have the right to defend ourselves!

He wants our "brothers" to use their their tongue to count their teeth.

I have said it several times, that the next war will not be at Enugu, Umuahia, Asaba,Owerri, etc but at Kano, Yobe, etc.

The gods have just informed me now that Ezeife is a person... angry

Ndi Igbos armed with 50cal GPMGs will still be powerless against a suicidal Aboki armed with 1 block of C4.. Only a dumbass brings a gun to a bomb fight.

very ridiculous statement. If all the passengers in the last bus explosion were armed with guns it would not have stopped the suicide bombers from hitting their target.

can somebody tell me why most nairalanders are just blatantly daft? did you read the statement before commenting or you just commented on the caption? i think is about time we pursue standard and rationality in our quest to air our various perspectives. the man made his point and we should proffer reachable solutions to situations like that of indiscriminate and massive killings of innocent people than making laughable comments on a matter of grave importance. peace!

To carry gun against bomb attack?! The solution to all these mess is simple. If you feel unsecured in a certain environment, relocate to a safer one. Even the animal does this.

For the government to accede to this request will be an acceptance that they've failed in their duty to secure the lives and property of the average Nigerian. What Ezeife is advocating for is already been done by a lot of Igbos in the North and it did not start with bokoharam. It started because of the inter-tribal and inter-religious killings in the North which was pre-boko. These weapons that some Igbos in the North wirld cannot do anything to stop a bomb unfortunately. The government must rise up to it's duties to protect it's citizens.

LMAO! How would one expect the government to buy guns and self-defence weapons and distribute to people? Tell me where it is done. I think the most appropriate thing for the Igbos in the North should do for now is to briefly relocate to calmer parts of the country in d meantime, till this Boko Haram and Ansarul issue ends.

That is the intention. Chadians and other suspected terrorists were accommodated in a house owned by Bayelsa State government in Lagos. Apparently they are the Bayelsa government guests.
