Governor Muazu Aliyu of Niger State has approved the appointment of former first lady and wife to Abdulsalami Abubakar, Justice Fati Lami Abubakar as the acting Chief Judge of the state

Justice Abubakar’s appointment follows the exit of the state’s chief judge, Justice Jibrin Ndatsu Ndajiwo who has proceeded on retirement having attained the mandatory retirement age of 65 years.
Governor Aliyu in a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Danladi Ndayebo said Justice Fati’s appointment was in conformity with section 271 (4) of the 1999 constitution.

“Acting upon the powers conferred on me by the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, which gives the powers to appoint a Chief Judge of a state, I Dr Muazu Aliyu hereby appoint Justice Fati Lami Abubakar as acting chief judge with effect from March 30,2013”.

The statement noted that with the former First lady impressive credentials as the most senior high court judge, a former solicitor general of the state and a judicial officer of impeccable character, Governor Aliyu is confident that the newly appointed acting chief judge will discharge the duties of her new office diligently without fear or favour.

He also wished her God’s guidance, more wisdom and the courage to handle the duties of her new office successfully.

Fati is my Favourite first Lady in Nigeria's history. Her hubby was head of state but she faced her career...Told her hubby that there is no office of the first lady in Naija's constitution..she practically stepped aside and till today she is still doin well in her career. Congrats Fati.

So should it have been an igbo, yoruba or ijaw person appointed as Chief Justice of Niger State? Then Okorocha should select a nupe person as Deputy Governor then.
