Aisha, the first daughter of former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida (retired) is giving the marriage institution another try after dumping her first husband.

After her failed marriage to Basheer Garba, P.M.News learnt that the beautiful daughter of the self-styled evil genius, will be joined in a fathia to Mahmud Shinkafi, the Zamfara State governor, on 11 April, 2008.

This time, the Nikkah will be devoid of all the glamour and razmatazz of her first marriage as it will be low-key and attended strictly by families of the would-be couple.

Aisha’s first marriage to Garba in September, 2003 drew top dignitaries from all walks of life among whom were former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (retired); Chief Ernest Shonekan and wife; the late Stella Obasanjo; Chief Olu Falae; former governors of Lagos and Abia states, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Chief Orji Uzor Kalu.

Others who attended the high society marriage were Segun Awolowo; former Lagos State Military governor, Colonel Raji Rasaki (retired); former Inspector-General of Police, Musiliu Smith; ex-Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar and wife; business mogul, Otunba Adekunle Ojora and wife; Erelu Ojuolape; Admiral Augustus Alkhomu (retired) among others.

The event was held at IBB’s Hill Top Mansion, Minna, the Niger State capital.

Aisha and Basheer were always seen in public together, while the marriage lasted.

They were together at the wedding of IBB’s eldest son, Mohammed, to daughter of Maiduguri businessman, Rahama Indimi on 10 July, 2004.

P.M.News could not ascertain the reason for the break-up of the marriage which produced a child, though Aisha reverted to her family name, Babangida, some months ago and had told anybody who cared to ask her about the marriage that she is happy with herself.

Aisha Babangida attended Corona School and Air force Secondary School, both in Lagos, before she went abroad to study Psychology.

well, @ title of thread, did she dump her first husband, or who did the dumping?

The marriage breaking up doesnt automatically mean she dumped her husband for no reason.  cool

She doesnt even look too happy in the wedding picture. I think she shouldnt have rushed into another marriage just yet. Maybe just moved abroad or something.

I'm not convinced there's a shortage of rich, powerful, influential and handsome guys in her own age group who are single and looking for a wife. All these govt VIPs and whatnots have sons, don't they.

If they want to marry her off as surety and guarantee in order to cement their hold on power, there are probably more than enough available guys around to fulfil the requirements no matter how stringent. Most of the Nigerian bigwigs have more than one wife and have been producing kids nonstop from the 60s to the present.

Why should she singlehandedly be forced to marry someone just for her family's sake. Or whatever. We are not talking about European or Saudi monarchy here.

The whole thing sounds like one of those pacesetter novels.

besides, if a woman can't look happy on her wedding day, then when will she ever look happy.  undecided

what position of wifehood does she occupy?

I heard some co wives if a northern governor slugged it out in public when struggling over who should be the official first lady.
Complications of the highest order

you are absolutely right but do the young men want to marry that particular girl?its a small circle and there are many in house gossips that isnt know to we the general public that they know an example is former nnpc gm s daughter who married a guy from the central africa one of atiku's son is hooked wup with a jamo girl he met in london and they have a son, theres a shortage of rich young guys in that circle because even though these men have many male children they are still few compared to the ratio of girls in their circle looking for husbands even the girls as early as 20/21
well it migh not be saudi monarchy but its an oil monarchy same as the saudis.many saudi monarchs are not as rich as ibb or ty danjuma

come on now.

Who wouldnt want to marry Babangida's daughter- even if she'd had five husbands.

And in fact, in Nigeria I'm so sure men probably outnumber women thanks to multiple wife lifestyles and the frantic pressure for male children.

Anyway, as you pointed out before, these types of marriages are mainly ways some of these govt bigwigs use to consolidate their holds on power and build connections among themselves.

I'm sure the lady can get a regular or unregular joe in Nigeria or from some other country to marry if she so wished, but she probably feels bound by some sense of duty to marry someone from among her family's approved list of suitors.

even if that means she'll be unhappily married, or one of the "other" wives. undecided

na wa for this world sha.

she's an adult, she obviously made a choice to go alone with the political marriage.
Re: Ibb’s Daughter Marries Zamfara Gov., After Dumping First Husband by Nobody: 8:59am On Apr 04, 2008
You guys should stop making it sound as if she was forced into any marriage. Aisha was raised as an independent young lady, who should never compromise on anything. She was raised to believe that she is from a royal family. Therefore, only what she says happens; no other person's opinion matters.
You guys should take time to find out the kind of celebrity friends she moves with.
Aisha could have married Kola if things had worked out between the two of them and nobody, even IBB would have done nothing about it.

Truth of the matter is that IBB's family is not an average Housa family where the girls are sometimes forced into an arranged marriage. And anybody who has been close to Aisha or the IBB's family would know that Aisha will be the last person to be forced into any arranged marriage.

With the little i know of Aisha, the course of the break up might not have been her doing, but she has never been in any way forced to marry any guy. Her family may have suggested, but not persuaded not to talk of forced. IBB's family stands to gain little or nothing by marrying her off as a fourth wife.

I believe she has her own plan - - - - - - - -- Fisrt lady in the making and maybe someday - - - - governor of Zamfara.grin

The kinds of Aisha doesnt need any regular joe. It has never been part of her life. Any person who is not as rich, cunning, powerful and "hansome" as her daddy is irregular.
Besides, how does someone of her status find a regular Joe even if she wanted one, disguise herself as a tomatoes seller at Oshodi market? tongue
Re: Ibb’s Daughter Marries Zamfara Gov., After Dumping First Husband by lucabrasi(m): 3:48pm On Apr 04, 2008
i disagree slightly with you,the mind set of these people is diffrent from that of even some regular rich men, they have been directly or indirectly schooled right from childhood about the kind of life, marriage and what not that they will lead when they grow up so its something that she will not deviate from no matter how independent, and marrying kola is not a bad match at all by babangida n co standards in fact ill say it ll even a positive for babangida in view of everything that has happened and in any case they dont need to force her,its called gentle persuation and if she insists her mum will have a talk with her to see sense and she can never marry a regular joe even if they r surplus and surrounding her

Anyone get 1st hand experience with this polygamy thing? I mean how does it really work?
As the 3rd wife, does Aisha have to join the other senior wives is a nightly islamic f--cking orgy, or does she wait for her turn?
The man, how about the man, does he go from room to room, or does he just lie there and the wives come to take their turns?
Somebody please give some answers, I'm dying of curiosity.

its not as disarranged as that for loaded people, they each have their apartments or houses in diffrent parts of nigeria mostly these kinda guys ll have a diffrent house bought for each wife and he visits them in turn, the newest wife will get all the attention depending on when the man loses interests and then he shuttles as his mood or the likeness he feels for them,by religious teachings and that they dont realli fight each other for attention because of the religion and why would they complain when they have children and most times are loaded in their own rights to keep them busy?

Don't you think the islamic,  is derogatory, i am tempted to ask you to inquire from your great grandfathers who definately must have married more than one wife how it is done, but i would be termed a taliban or jihadist.

My advice: Don't be a pervert don't get so intrested in other people's sexual life.

well to help you out, it is possible that not all of them would be available, one may be having her period, another may just deliver or heavily pregnant, travelled or anything. if they are all around then he can meet with any one them, but he must not neglect any of them. Before you marrry 3/4 you should be able to treat them almost equally.
