Nigeria's Growing Interest of Foreign Investors - Part 2

The growing interest of foreign investors and government programs designed to address the country's infrastructure deficit are driving the creation of specialised funds in the Nigerian market. These funds pool together resources from investors seeking better returns and the issuers and fund managers then invest these funds in a variety of assets including the stock market and infrastructure. Eye on Nigeria's Capital Market examines the type of products that are being created.

NISSAN,FG DISCUSS ASSEMBLY PLANT ESTABLISHMENT

One of the prominent Japanese auto manufacturers,
Nissan, has initiated a discussion with the Federal
Government for the establishment of an assembly plant in Nigeria.

The firm, which took the automobile industry by storm last Wednesday with the inauguration of Stallion Auto Group as its new distributor/dealership in Lagos, said it hoped to start assembling its products in the country soon.

Head of Nissan sub-Sahara Africa, Mr. Jim Dando, stated
this during the inauguration.

According to him, the auto manufacturing giant is excited
about the new business direction and expects Nigeria to
play a dominant role in its plan to double its market share
from its current 7.9 per cent to 16 per cent in Africa by
2016.

He noted that with the its large population, Nigeria should be interested in establishing viable auto manufacturing companies.

According to him, a robust auto industry is a major job
creator, giving the South African experience where the
sector offers job opportunities to people in spare part
companies, steel making firms, transport and other related companies.

Although Dando said that although the firm was prepared
to crash the prices of Nissan products, the current import
duty differential between fully built vehicles and semi-
built/components must be wide in order to discourage the
importation of the former.

He also spoke on the need to control the influx of used
vehicles called tokunbo into the country.
He said the firm had confidence in the ability of Stallion
Group to push the brand to the top position in the country. As a measure of that confidence, he said Nissan would unveil seven new products in Nigeria this year.
He spoke on some of the new products such as 2013
Nissan Sentra, Tiida, new Teana, NV 350 Urvan.
"GT-R and Juke are enroute to Lagos as we speak, while
the next generation Sentra, Tiida, Teana, Pathfinder and
Qashqai will be introduced in the coming months, bringing cars packed with innovative features that reflect Nissan's passion for bringing accessible technology to a broader audience," Dando said.

The Managing Director, Stallion NMN, said the inauguration of the Nissan facility at Gbagada, Lagos, was the first step in the company's commitment to the provision of an exclusive and world-class automotive experience to customers in Nigeria.

He said, "Stallion has a firm belief in the Nissan brand and wishes to re-connect the local motoring public with
Nissan's heritage of solid engineering, ingenuity and
aesthetic values. Through our network expansion plans,
and strong focus on the ongoing development of our sales and service teams, Nigeria's consumers can expect
consistent and innovative sales and service solutions."

Nice job Op. One lady opened a thread the other day arguing that Ngozi's fact about the annual growth rate of the Nigerian economy at 6.5 percent was wrong. I couldn't believe her ignorance when she boldly said there were no foreign investments in the country. You would never see such people in this thread since they live in negativity.
Once again, welldone op.

Bro., help me ask the pseudo-economists on this forum.

Everything is a bubble!

The more you look in Naija, the less you see.

GDP is growing at an alarming rate, yet the poor are getting poorer by day.

Foreign investment is growing, yet the unemployment rate is also growing.

Manufacturing is growing, yet the country is importing more. grin

The country's name ought to be changed from Nigeria to Oxymoron!! tongue

Laughable! - you definitely can't make this shiit up. grin undecided
Any data or evidence to back your claim that the poor is getting poorer and that import is on the rise..if yes..share with the forum...

God bless moderators of Niaraland for having listening ears... You have shown graciousness when we talked you down. However, remember that this piece of invention of yours has great potentials just like Nigeria. You don't want to be written off as a serious source of information because your front page has recently been crowded with pictures of wannabe stars who wore what outfit better or pictures of immoral people who took in for another while married to one. etc...

About time one would say, but then Rome was not built in a day.
More attention to infrastructure will definitely see exponential growth as Nigeria becomes the new frontier.
You will be amazed how easily the green passport starts to get 'enjoy your stay sir' around the world airports irrespective of our past.
All hands on deck and let us fight corruption, embibe some discipline, show accountability to make the dividends a significant legacy to be bequeathed.

Bravo.

We pray for more investments. We pray for less scavenging! Some of the names on that list are known scavengers. They bring in one billion and take out 2 billion in 1 year.

Nigeria must seek for the investments, where locals are employed to senior positions. Where shares are placed in the stock market. And so on...

We say yes to investing and NO to scavenging!
