Who Is Kiliwi Nwachukwu? Is He Real Or Just A Folklore? by Dikachiii: 1:28pm On Apr 09, 2013
This morning I wanted to beat my younger brother and my father said I should calm down and stop behaving like Kiliwi. Then I remembered that name from pictures in my Abidi Igbo text book from primary school. I've searched google and Wikipedia to see if I could get relevant info about him but I've got none. I like the tales of him and his superman prowess. I'd like to know if he was indeed real?

Just asked my Granny and she said it's actually true, that he was popular in the early 50's but she can't remember much at the moment.

He was real. I don't really remember any details, but i did see a black and white picture of him back when i was little. He was carrying one dude like that above his head; he looked quite huge... or maybe it was the dude he was carrying that was really small. undecided

But he was real.

It's real. He was a superman who was going from place to place to perform. People paid to watch him. I saw him perform at our primary school in those days. I think his real name was Nwozuzu Nwachukwu (or something like that). I heard that "Killi We" was a nickname he got after a fight with a certain man.

Story has it that the man refused to pay him for his services as a truck pusher. Nwachukwu carried the man's goods from either the market or bus stop (I can't really say) to the man's house. After dropping off the goods, the man refused to pay claiming the charge was too high. He tried to walk away and Nwachukwu grabbed him by the hand insisting he must pay. A fight ensued and he pinned the man to the ground. The man's wife came with a wooden pestle to assist her husband. Nwachukwu snatched it from her, lifted the woman up and pinned her on top of her husband on the floor. Powerless, she started screaming, "Killi We Nwachukwu, Killi we Nwachukwu" meaning, 'Nwachukwu, Kill us'

In the early 90's, we were asked to pay some money so that he will come and display his power. We gladly paid the money. On the D day od his assuMed coming, we waited, we couldn't see him, so, we left. The following day in school, some students that were patient enough narrated how he came, how he carried four students on each of his hand and some many power acrobat . Menn..... It was like a hell to me that I didn't wait to see this man.
He is real.

He existed. Back in eighties, he came to our school, we paid 50 Kobo to watch him. He carried 10 bags of cement on his stomach and toyed a 504 peugeot SR with a rope on his teeth. Story had it that when he died, his body was deposited in Aladinma mourtuary, he in the night, will carry don all other corpeses and strech himself on them. He continued this till he was rejected by the morgue. He was real.

Kiliwe died during the War.

I stand corrected.

Please provide proof that Kiliwe lived in the 90s or after the War.

That could be great that he survived the war because he was in the Biafran Army.

OMG..... grin what a nostalgic feeling.
Back then in St. Paul's primary school, Douglas road we paid 50kobo to watch kiliwi perform.
A huge fellow. At par then with Hulk Hogan, Andrew the Giant, Ultimate warrior then lol.
Childhood experience...always memorable and exhilarating.
Take me back to those days.
Don't even know how I wandered into thread.

Sir no need for all that. His fame and popularity in the east was still deafening well into the 80s. Many school children paid to see his shows. It will not be hard to confirm this at all. Just ask around.

My broda, thanks for providing the video. Though I did not understand the language, I enjoy it. It seems they were talking about the many physical prowess he performed.

Again, if he lived longer than I thought, I missed him.

He was just loved by all of us. As kids, we we celebrated him.
