This morning, the Admin, Mr. Seun, increased my responsibility as a moderator in Nairaland. He made me a co-mod in Politics section. I took the job simply to team up with OAM4J & Afam4eva to fight this deadly virus eating up this Politics section. So, my priority here is to deal with the virus.

Its too shameful what some of the adults here are teaching our children. An innocent kid registers in Nairaland, the first thing he or she is taught is to hate his neighour, schoolmates, classmates or even best friends, simply because they are from different tribes. You maynot be directly teaching them how to hate an innocent fellow human being at home or in school, but you are directly doing that here.

Ojukwu made mistake in the past, what about it? Awolowo did the same, what about it? My father must have made some mistakes in the past and so what? I have made some mistakes in the past that am not proud of and so wetin come happen? An what about you blaming another tribe or prominent figure for an alleged mistake(s)? Are you saying you have never done something in the past that you always regret whenever you remember them? Show me, who is that perfect man? Cant we let the past be and see what the future have for us?

The 1994 Rwandan Genocide, a clash/manslaugther between Tutsis and Hutsis ethnic groups, which claimed about 1 million lives, didnt just happen. It started like what we are doing here. Creating & Promoting hatred. Sudan is not left out. We may call it e-tribal fight, but dont understimate what it does in our minds, which translate one way or another in our personal lives offline.

Ojukwu is Ojukwu. Type anything other than that and i will ban you. Awolowo is Awolowo, anything short of that warrants ban from me. Achebe is Achebe. Type anything else, then we shall see. Am not a baby, i know a typo when i see one. I have taken my time to study and see some people deliberately address such people with offensive names. If you can spell your name correctly, then you have no reason not to spell Ojukwu, Achebe or Awolowo correctly.

Unfortunately, some of the Igbos were raised outside the Eastern part of the country. They are the ones that would argue that Ibo is the right pronounciation and spelling, rather than Igbo. Well, i wont blame them. Few of our fathers who had their formal education during colonial era wrongly still write as they were taught by the whiteman. Some are still victims of mental colonization. Ibo maynot be an issue outside Nairaland, but it has become one in Nairaland, deliberately used to instigate tribal war in Politics section. For the sake of peace, please use your Ibo outside Politics section. Likewise, dont address anyother tribe with an offensive name, claiming you read it in a book or you found it on google.

If you an Igbo and think I wont ban you because am an Igbo too when you call a Yoruba "Yoruba", i will first ban you even if the yoruba fellow first insulted you. Prefential treatment is not in my dictionary. And note that the duration of my ban is usually 7 days.

I have not hidden any post yet or ban anyone, but as soon as this is posted, i will get to work. I have not become anyone's enemy yet. I maynot have time for other offences, but not for tribalism. Wont spare anyone, even if you are a friend. If you dont like my style of mod, you better start your petition to the admin to remove me before i fully start. Because, i wont spare any tribalist here who refuses to change.

Depending on the degree of the insult against another tribe, i may hide the post, ban the username or both.

Ikenna.

Welcome my oga at the top oga Ikenna grin

This is a positive and I cosign that. Issue a warning first and then the offensive post be hidden. Subsequent offense should attract a month ban and then increased to 3 months if the person is unrepentant. Lifetime ban if he/she is a known tribalist who has gone through all punishments above but refuses to change but remain a sad person

Tribalism is worse than racism, to me at least because i wouldn't worry much if a white guy don't like me for my color but if my fellow black brother from the same country dislikes me, wetin i go do or where am i gonna go sad sad

I personally don't hate or just dislike people just because of where they come from, i treat them as individuals and judge them based on their own character, i'm a victim of stereotype in itself.

I like igbos (my nwuyes kiss kiss cheesy) the same way i like the yorubas person except that person acts otherwise, even then i treat he/she as an individual

I've grown to hate the politics section just because of this and i hope Seun will take it serious now

You are welcome Ikenna.
Afam and OAM4J are trying too but the virus has eaten us deep here. This tribalism of a thing especially between Igbo and Yoruba must stop. Northerners should also not to be seen as people from another planet. All the southerners should be warned.

Congrats on the new responsibility!

A very misguided and pointless approach.

Maybe you need to work on the highlighted first before talking about moderation which going by your post is going to be difficult for you and hazardous for NL.

very funny. The issue of tribalism on the internet (not only on nairaland) cannot be tackled by mere post, bans and warning. It has to start from the top, likes of Sun newspaper and Odili news. Also with like of Achebe and co inciting the young generations into tribalism, I am sorry but it cannot end, it can only be reduced in moments.

Take this from me. Thanks to Achebe, the progress black have made in years to unite has just been broken again.

Afam4eva: You're welcome on board bro.
Now you guys are gradually making sense. It is absurb to read so many ethnic insults everyday...I kept on talking about this everyday. I hope this is not an empty threat. Some of us have been planning alternative methods to stop it on nairaland..we will wait and see!

Loving this, so long as this e-war/hate stops or is minimized to the barest minimum. Thumbs up.

Utter bs. Nigeria is more divided now than it ever has been way before Achebe. Cowards like you like to hide their crimes under a scapegoat to make yourselves feel better. You were a crook long before someone called out your crookedness you are just mad that he called you out. In reality you were never hidden you just thought that the rest of the world was stupid.

It's still less than 10 posts and you've already concluded? WOW! People like you are the reasons why Nigeria is where it is, you don't give anything a chance.

Who says this is gonna completely stop tribalism? This is a step in the right direction to at least curtail it. We need the younger generation to start seeing the positives and stop passing along the venom. This is the same attitude our parents had back then which allowed the whole thing to spiral down. Now you hate someone because of what you most likely never experienced.

It's gotta start someone bro, don't shoot it down at its infancy

yes you are right, with the raise of likes of Boko Haram, surly Nigeria is more divided. Now let me ask you, What is the purpose of Nairaland apart from getting information and trading ? Ofcourse is to SOCIALISE and of course being "Naira"land we are to socialise with people from other cultures in Nigeria.

Now Issues and topics are brought up by people mostly journalist, writers etc outside the walls of Nairaland, if this issues are tribal inciteful surely there WOULD BE ETHNIC WAR IN TERMS OF WORDS. Yes exactly that is where Achebe came in, rather than use his talent to create harmony in the minds of young adults, he used his to create discord.

Not only likes of Achebe, their are others but Achebe comes to mind first.

Like I said utter bs. You that claims ever ethnicity under the sun so you can put on a different face day in day out so you can insult this group are the last to talk about tribalism.

Achebe didn't do sh1t that you were not already doing. Like I said rats like you are always looking for a fall man.

Ok I would give it a chance, I would listen to you but if the issue is not addressed in my believe, then it is like fighting the wind. We have some many post, topic articles and even books on nairaland to stop this so called tribalism but it keeps getting worse.

Whatsap people. I just wanna say it on record here that i am not tribalistic for real, am only who i am in nairaland because i was racially, sorry, tribalistically abused in the real world based on impression superimposed by tribal comments of dayokanu, bluetooth and their minions here in NL. If you want to quench fire, you start from the source, because when these bigots are on a roll, i cannot guarantee my neutrality or those of my collaborators. So ikenna monitoring these guys is the key to resolving this mess.

Finally Seun is doing the right thing. This is an excellent approach. Ikenna, my advice for you is to create a thread where people can report tribal provocations, so you don't have to read every single thread.
