PRESIDENT of Slok Group, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, will, between April 28 and May 7 visit India to finalise the deal for the establishment of a steel rolling mill in Abia State, by Prime Group, India, the owners of Prime Electric Company.

The steel rolling mill is to be cited in Kalu's hometown, Igbere, in Abia State.

Slok Group, a dominant name in the Nigerian and international business environment, has interests in different sectors of the economy, which include manufacturing, oil and gas, trading, banking and insurance, real estate, logistics, import and export, shipping, construction and agriculture, among others.

In January, Rohan Mehta, Managing Director of Prime Group, India and a strong business partner of Slok Group, had, on the invitation of Kalu, visited Igbere to conduct a preliminary and investment analysis for the proposed multi-million dollar steel rolling mill.

Kalu will thus, be visiting India to conclude the deal.

Among those on his entourage to India, a statement by his Special Adviser, Oyekunle Oyewumi, said will be Chief David Uche, Mr J. Raju, Mr Sali Abba, and Mr Peter Nowsu.

They will arrive India on April 28 to follow up discussions with Prime Electric Company and other top leading companies in New Delhi, Punjab, Hyderabad and Mumbai.

Kalu and his team will also use the opportunity to hold discussions with the Bank of India, financial partners of the proposed project, the Tata Group and the Renaissance Group.

Mehta will host a dinner in honour of Kalu at the Tata Majal Hotel, New Delhi, on April 29.

The dinner will be attended by Nigeria's Ambassador to India, leading Indian investors and top Indian government officials, among others.

Dr Kalu is also expected to pay courtesy calls on the Prime Minister of India, Mr Manmohan Singh and the Gandi family before leaving India on May 7.

Would be nice if this comes to fruition after all the travelling and airmiles.

The raw materials needed for a steel rolling mill, are they in or near Abia state? I know savy Indians wouldn't be involved in a big business deal like this if it didn't make sound business sense.

Abia needs more industries like these, that would benefit from the expected uninterrupted and adequate power supply provided by Nnajis' Geometrics power company.

Kalu remains a big rogue and thief, who after 8 years as "governor", basically left the state more backwards than during military boy rule.

But Kalu has been richer than Abia State since it's creation.

Don't ask me how he got the money because I don't have a clue.

This is a good move by kalu, we all know that our political office holders are thieves but if they can invest half of what they have stolen back home, Nigeria would be better than this.

Video didn't show much besides the site inspection. Though i daresay it was a bit mean of Kalu to drag those poor white men on a trek into the deep bush; they must have fancied themselves as Tarzan on a mission!

Kalu is 100 percent better than the present governor. At least when he was governor, Aba roads were motorable. Kalu is also better than Udenwa who achieved nothing in Imo State.
Kalu sin is that fell out of favor with Obj cos of 3rd term.
Till date, I still respect him for openly fighting Obj tenure elongation.

Dear Kalu, if you can achieve this milestone, even where Ajeokuta Steel Plant (Financed by the Federal Government) fell, you will become the industrialist that made the biggest impact in Nigeria. You will also be rated higher than the likes of Babangida and others that have ruled Nigeria. Eastern Nigeria needs a major economic boost. Do not be distracted by critics in this new vision and foundation for real economic growth in Nigeria.

I know he will succeed. We need people like this. Business brings develeopment.
