Nice piece. When i read the title of this thread i thought it was all about a nairalander declaring his love for Shugamania . . Nigerians do not really appreciate poetry as a genre of literature, we place much emphasis on drama and prose.

No rhyme and little or no spicing-figures of speech. Good all the same.

ask penance he said
pray, for thy soul has been fowled
seek forgiveness or face holy inquisition


i stood, wretched on two feet
quavering with might as feeble as the lock of my hair
my heart, soaring higher beyond known yonders
as my mind writhed with restlessness
in my weakness i felt the bud of desire
tasted sweet nothings of gentle nudgings
the only thought that guarantees a shudder to my cracked lips

jetblack eyes belonging only to you as sinking as the sea
thrilling cascades in lofty mounds, filling
my entire being lurched with a vermin to lend voice to tongue
and tell the world of my longing to wait for you

t'is this sickness that compels me to wait

from whence really, cometh this ailment?
