Are Ladies Respected In Nigerian Music Videos? by alosiby92(f): 10:37am On May 10, 2013
Although the modern music videos by Nigerian artistes have improved in quality, quantity has worsened in terms of the ladies in the music videos.
In my opinion, they are not respected AT ALL. All I see when I watch these videos is sex and sex appeal being sold.
It disturbs me in that as a female, I feel like I am being objectified and that these girls are treated like crap and are seen as nonentities.
To all the music artistes, when will we see a clean music video where we can enjoy the song without thinking of the girl vigorously vibrating her nyash in the video?
It makes me mad to think that even when the song has nothing to do with a girl, one girl must feature half clothed in the video.
These videos are spoiling market for all the decent girls out there.
I may be wrong. Perharps there is another reason why there is so much disrespect in Nigerian music videos.
What is your opinion?

The use of sex appeal in music video is nonsense and demeaning. Ladies are now meant to be seen as sex object and nothing more.

Shouldn't the 'ladies' decline? Were they forced? I don't really get what you are on about.. Though I'm tired of the bum-bum shaking girls.

It's disturbing....seriously, I think they are turning our ladies into whores and gold diggers; their lyrics and videos are not encouraging! It's a global thing though....It is now glaring that Nigeria has been Americanized!

What is your opinion?

No one forced/coerced these ladies to dance on TV. Maybe you should direct your question to your fellow women.

@Post

Have you watched American music videos? Same crap. They don't respect ladies in their videos either. So, it is what it is sadly.
Re: Are Ladies Respected In Nigerian Music Videos? by Nobody: 11:19am On May 11, 2013
Apparently, they are not. Mostly, the girls are seen as sex subjects. No dignity whatsoever. But what do you expect ladies? Some say, women naturally desire attention no matter how extreme it gets. Well, in this case Money and you Body are being used to get your attention. Covetousness, in order words, the new gods....

Nigeria women and African women as a whole must set new priorities or learn to live with it, cause you asked for it.

Nigerian Music video improve in quality while the song itself (which is the main purpose of music) has deteriorated into Crap and meaningless noise. It's amazing how we pay more attention to the 'irrelevants' in this country!
Re: Are Ladies Respected In Nigerian Music Videos? by Nobody: 11:21am On May 11, 2013
Do they force them? Ask your sisters to respect themselves and stop taking money to shake their azz in music videos. When you at it , stop watching/patronizing po.rn.

Are ladies respected my foot

Respect wetin?
Nigerian ladies are not presented well in todays music videos. Its something that started wayback from the '70s with Fela, the early '90s with Fuji musicians like Abbas Akande Obesere till present time hip hop & pop artistes. Hip Hop artistes in Nigeria now see that people get interested in their videos when they see buttockks & breastts dangling. They wanna make profit, hence they ll make videos that people want to see, though it's causing moral decaydence to the youths... Its just a pathetic situation.
More so, I won't talk more about the musicians, I ll lay the blame more on the girls that so much volunteer to dance nakedd or semi-nakedd in videos. There's this recent video titled Sama (I v forgotten the name of the artiste) & 'Socor' by D'banj in 2005 or 2006. I remembered how happy those girls are just to display their buttockks & breastts for the public.
------------------------
Last Bullet: I remembered back in the University days. Whenever any artiste come to our campus to get girls for their video shoot, I ll be amazed at seeing the large number of girls that ll turn up. Some ll even volunteer to appear for free. Just because dem wan show for TV while some is to get money.
The earlier the better for NBC to take stern measures on videos that ll be shown in our local TVs. I learnt that songs like Take Banna by D'Prince, Shake your bum bum by Timaya, Push by Ruggedman & Terry G, Alingo by P-Square, Go Low by Wande Coal v been banned by NBC. I don't know their kind of ban cos I still see Alingo & Shake your bum bum on local TVs, though its in the evening around 10pm. If their ban is to late nights, its still not good. I d prefer they should be banned totally from any hour in local TVs.
Now coughing cos I v talked too much. Exit thread to continue listening to Morell & Olamide's Hit Song, Anti Social.
