Federal Government on Tuesday renamed the War Against Indiscipline Brigade as Community Support Brigade.

The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who unveiled the brigade, urged the newly inaugurated 3,000 members to assist security agencies by providing useful intelligence reports to them.

He said, “The nation is being assaulted by sectarian insurgence and ethnic militias, those behind the acts live among us in our communities, you must work out to fish them out.

“As foot soldiers of the NOA, you are to discharge your duties at the workplace, places of worship, traffic control posts, schools, community settings and social gatherings.”

“You must discharge your duties with decorum, respect and civility in tandem with democratic values and the temperament of the Federal Government, the National Assembly will give you all the necessary support.”

The National Orientation Agency Director-General, Mike Omeri, said the change of name became necessary because the brigade had “been adjudged militant and oppressive without sustainable results”.

On the rebranding, Omeri said, “Our goal is to make CSB more efficient, people-friendly and service-oriented. In addition to its extant functions, the brigade will henceforth render community services. It will forge a grand alliance against anti-social behaviours as well as persuasively enforce respect for national symbols – National Flag, National Anthem, Coat of Arms, and the Naira Currency.”
