2015: Obasanjo Calls For Leadership Change by malele(m): 4:31am On May 30, 2013
FORMER President Olusegun Obasanjo reopened yesterday what is arguably Nigeria’s most critical issue – leadership.

“You know you can help somebody to get the job, but you cannot help him to do it. If somebody cannot do the job, we have Sule Lamido who we are confident can do the job,” he told a crowd of would-be investors, dignitaries and ordinary folks in Dutse, capital of Jigawa State.

It was at the opening of the First Jigawa State Economic and Investment Summit at the Sir Amadu Bello Hall at the state secretariat.

Obasanjo did not elaborate on his statement and it was not immediately clear whether he was talking about the 2015 election. Jigawa State Governor Lamido is being rumoured to be interested in the presidential race with Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as his running mate. He has said he is yet to think about 2015.

Although he did not mention the President’s name in Dutse yesterday, Obasanjo has been critical of the Dr. Goodluck Jonathan administration.

He has spoken against its handling of the Boko Haram insurgency and the growing unemployment, saying it is a bomb waiting to explode.

Obasanjo said the government should have approached the Boko Haram insurgency the way he (Obasanjo) handled the killing of security men in Odi (Bayelsa State) and Zaki Biam (Benue State) communities when he was the president.

But President Jonathan fired back, saying the soldiers Obasanjo sent to Odi failed to get those who killed the security men.

Dr. Jonathan said as deputy governor of Bayelsa State at the time, he discovered, when he visited Odi after the military raid, that only women and children were killed by the soldiers.

Obasanjo has also in recent time, distanced himself from activities of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) , which is immersed in crises. He resigned his membership of the Board of Trustees (BoT).

The former president however revealed that, he was the one who imposed Lamido on the people of Jigawa. He is happy that he was not disappointed, he said.

Obasanjo also called on governors to maintain cordial relationship with the Federal Government so as to ensure meaningful development.

He said there was need for governors to show full cooperation with the government at the centre for the common interest of the nation and its citizens.

The former President also described Jigawa state as a fertile ground for investment. He urged both local and international investors to locate their investment potentials in the state.

According to him, Jigawa is not only peaceful, it has acquired the needed infrastructure and resources capable of boosting business and enterprises.

Obasanjo described Jigawa state as the most investor-friendly in the country, citing stable security, peace and huge presence of needed infrastructure as his reasons.

Obasanjo said the problem of the country’s leadership is, “that of unmet expectations stressing that governments must invest in the people’s education to overcome poverty, redundancy and criminalities.

He explained that good governance is key for any practical and factual economic development plan, “the government is not expected to invest directly, but to provide enabling environment for private investors to exploit.

“The way Sule Lamido has revitalised the Jigawa State – education sector, adequate provision of good roads network, infrastructure, social security, free trade – has now made the state to be a haven for investors, and to the best of my knowledge, today there is nowhere in Nigeria where investors can have confidence in doing business that is greater than Jigawa State.

“I am optimistic that, this summit would help in making out long-term economic plan that would lead to the successful economic development that would be translated into the increase of employment, wealth creation, poverty reduction and improve the well-being of the people of the state and Nigeria”

Lamido recalled his inaugural speech six years ago. He said: “As you all might be aware, our state manifests the worst indices of underdevelopment.

“It was the electioneering campaign tour that exposed me to the problems of our people in that most pathetic degree. The tour brought me face to face with the uniquely unmitigated case of underdevelopment called Jigawa state”, he said.

The governor observed that as he settled down in office, he discovered that the elite in the state were living in a world of their own that ensured total disconnect with the ordinary citizens

He said his resolve to run the government best practices in governance has helped to liberate the state from the pains and agony of underdevelopment.

He said: “Today, we want to announce to the whole world with all the noise we can muster that we are ready and our doors are now open to take Jigawa to the next level”.

Chairman of the summit Lord Paul Boateng, said he has the conviction that the state can become a ‘Super Eagle’ in the economic world.

“Nigeria is Africa’s biggest direction for foreign investment”, he said, warning that “we must also need to recognise that Africa is the father of its own progress”.

In her vote of thanks, the Commissioner for Commerce, Hajiya Hauwa Sulaiman Baffa, thanked Diamond Bank among others for supporting the summit.

2015 is definitely going to be bloody. The old era of political assasinations is probably going to creep back into the polity.

May our good God grant common sense and wisdom to these set of Nigerian leaders.

The last time I checked, democracy is the government of the people, by the people and for the people.

Why would OBJ detect, nominate, impose or rig in a Governor for the people of Jigawa? And even have the guts to openly announce it...congratulating him and himself as per being "the god" of the people of Jigawa.

This is an insult to the people of Jigawa...this is a let down and injustice. A show of shame!

Last night I was pondering about the Nigeria's PoliticoSphere; I am thankful for one thing - The Cabal of Iliterates that held power with arrogance and Oligarchical demeanour are being pushed aside one after the other. OBJ and his retired Generals are far from running this country. The Educated and real Doctorate Degree Holders are running the affairs of Nigeria now, I want the States to purge themselves of half-educated 'men'.

Never again, should we allow these half-baked, half-educated, nomadic ex-militia, oligarchical, egostistic men to control the Nation. If it means, getting rid of them from the PDP and pushing them to powerless opposition, lets do it.

OHBEEJAH at his age should NOT be talking about changing leaders, cos he is NOT a good leader, he never was. He ran this country with ignominy and impunity. Fleecing Lagos State allocation for several years and disobeying the constitution. Now he feels he is a saint. He is supposed to be advisory as old men usually are, instead of picking sides.

OBJ saying GEJ has to go in 2015? Pretty much the opinion of most political stakeholders outside the ND. There is no way a Politician can be as openly treacherous, as wantonly divisive, as callously disappointing and anti-people as GEJ is (to virtually everyone including Political colleagues and ordinary Nigerians) yet said politicians can expect to have any form of support base outside his own region which the blindly ethnocentric nature of Nigerians guarantees. We wish GEJ 'goodluck' even getting the PDP ticket in 2014.

Power of incumbency pales to the power of the people
When OBJ declared that Yaradua resign as the honorable thing to do due to his health challenges for Jonathan's emergence,he was not a hypocrite
Now that a Jonathan who had two years to see how governance functions before taking over in 2009 is a MISERABKE FAILURE,you call him a hypocrite

OBJ is now irrelevant to the PDP. His state and zone is being controlled by an opposition party and he's no longer the BOT chairman. He no longer has any influence in picking candidates or deciding the outcome of elections. He's a goner.
The least he can do is to join other opposition parties which is impossible because nobody trusts him. He's a three eyed treacherous snake
Re: 2015: Obasanjo Calls For Leadership Change by oddy4real(m): 8:09am On May 30, 2013
Even in Ogun PDP, Obasanjo has no relevance, his faction IS NOT recognized and he cannot control delegates that would vote during the PDP Presidential Primaries.Obasanjo has lost a lot of relevance and to gain relevance, he has to say Controversial things to make the Headlines.
he doesnt have enough clout to stop GEJ from clinching the PDP ticket.

Not at all a fan of OBJ but can you listen to yourself? What always amazes me about people like you is your ingratitude and revisionism that makes you totally happy, any time and any day, to disregard what is obvious.

So GEJ got where he did by his own divine power and ability alone? For you, OBJ did nothing to help GEJ gain power at all and is now only fit to be insulted and disrespected because he is no longer behind GEJ? I personally despise OBJ and I think he deserves all he gets from ungrateful fans of GEJ such as yourself.

Yet one cannot but feel sorry for the old man with how things have come 360 degrees to show him that he would have been better off supporting opinionated performers instead of propping up assumed "meek and gentle" leaders who may transform into a horrid menace for the entire nation as was the case with Shagari, Yar Adua and now GEJ. As if that is not enough, doubly sad for OBJ that GEJ also has the most clannish, most ungrateful, most foul-mouthed and most divisive supporters any leader can have.

Baba OBJ, please enjoy the negative aspect of what you created wilfully. See it now? All your efforts for GEJ totally forgotten and you are now the enemy to be cheaply insulted daily. Good for you. In your next life time, support good men and enduring respect is assured. Your direct contemporaries like Kufour of Ghana are now enjoying honour and respect because they did the right thing yet you are being insulted by the fans of a man who is not even a good leader and has no right to be where he if not for the wicked and self-calculating machinations of men like you. Fitting end for you sir.

Obj who could not help his daughter win the last election, Where was the man when the opposition snatched power from him in Ogun and other Western states?
Power has changed hands, Obj is no longer the president of Nigeria, he should stop overestimating his influence.

Mr,to start with, I have never seen where the pillage of educational qualifications translate to sterling leadership performance. In fact experience has shown that majority of brilliant chaps don't usually possess the required intelligence to be good leaders of people. A professor can be raw in thinking and s.t.upid in reasoning. Leadership prowess is an innate ability that could only be boosted by education not vice versa.

Since you are very good at "pondering about the Nigeria's PoliticoSphere", you must also be able to recollect that your PhD holder was hand picked and raised from nobody from somebody climbing on the shoulder of the assumed illiterates. He was pushed to assume his rightful position by them when he was too weak to act. He was shouldered to wade through the mucky water of his party power rotation agreement. He was helped to dismantle the ever formidable and united front in Nigeria politics to clench the power. If you don't see the handwriting on the wall, it is clear. GEJ is going to become history except he bows his head in submission to OBJ and his likes.

Obj does not have any right to speak on leadership cos he never was a good leader. Talking about someone who is utterly corrupt. Rigs election openly and boast about it. It's time he shut his mouth up and allow GEJ abeit clueless to do his things his way.

u need to quote for me, exactly where he said this in Jigawa, and how Jonathan pone him and reply immediately! U journalists are morons!

He has spoken and we heard him. OBJ is envious of GEJ because GEJ conducted the most free and fair election ever known in the history of Africa. OBJ's daughter lost because GEJ refused to toll the line of rigging and thuggery. Era of Corruption is over in this country, sule Lamido's son was caught with millions of dollars he intended to deposit into his family's a secret account in Egypt. The case is still on and OBJ expects us to accept the father of a thief as our leader come 2015? Never! GEJ has brought smiles to scores of Nigerians world over and he accepts both negative and positive criticism in good fates. He has always shown that human feelings towards ones fellow creatures by giving Boko Haram more than enough time to repent. He built schools for Almajiri's in other to safe/save them from self destruction. 50% of Northern population will vote GEJ in 2015 60 southwest will vote for him while 100% southeast and the IBB's politically created south south will vote GEJ respectively. OBJ count your losses in advance jare.
