Best And Worst Government Websites by yawatide(f): 6:25pm On Jun 14, 2013
I am hoping this thread will be one of many in helping us learn, become better developers and to hopefully but various institutions on notice that what they are doing is being watched. In today's installment, I would like to start with State House of Assembly websites.

Based on our 36 states, I came up with the following (last year, I could only find 10. I guess we are improving):

http://www.anambrastatehouseofassembly.org/
http://www.akwaibomstatehouseofassembly.org/
http://www.bauchiassembly.info/
http://www.bayelsaparliament.com/
http://www.deltastateassembly.gov.ng/
http://www.kanohouseofassembly.org/
http://www.ktsha-gov.org/
http://www.lagoshouseofassembly.gov.ng/
http://www.oyohouseofassembly.org/
http://www.rsha.gov.ng/

If there are any others, please list them here. Just make sure they aren't facebook pages and they aren't subfoldered on another website cool

So based on the above, which is your best and worst? Reasons? Here are some possible areas to look at (not in any particular order):
1) Load time
2) Content
3) Layout
4) Mobile Friendly
5) SEO Friendly

Oya, let's go. I have mine in mind but I don't want to start too early to influence your thoughts.

1. Anambra is not mobile friendly. On my 15 inches laptop, the website even has a horizontal scroll bar. The layout with lots of gradiets is actually childish. Image alts are empty. But I like their choice of green color.

2. Akwa Ibom is not responsive or mobile friendly. Image alts are empty. The orange color is a bit off-color for a government website. The facebook icon on the top right is not properly positioned. I like the layout.

3. Bauchi looks simple and matured. I like the layout. Image alts are properly described. It looks like a wordpress. It's very responsive. I don't like the blue color they used. And I dont like the fact that if u want to read more about the house members, a pdf file will start downloading.

4. Bayelsa didnt make sense.

5. Delta not ok.

6. Kano is just a funny joomla template. Just a crappy website.

7. Kastina, the color is too shouty. Not fit for a government website.

8. Lagos not fine.

9. Oyo is not fine.

10. Rivers not ok.

Most of the websites took eternity to load.

Overall, the best so far is Bauchi, then Akwa Ibom and then Anambra.

Are this govt websites? so this guys cldnt find any good template out there is they cant make one themselves. Am not a good webdesigner myself, but they all rubbish websites for a website not to talk of been used as govt website. And the so called law makers gets to approve it, i guess most of them dont even know they've got a website (not surprised though, since that's how they keeps approving rubbish laws).

For me i put the ranking like this Bauchi, and Rivers

databoy:
That is a state government website not a house of assembly website, for which this thread is devoted. I will launch another thread (or you can start it wink ) dedicated to SG websites.

I created this: www.jangisworking.com.

Good enough??
Re: Best And Worst Government Websites by yawatide(f): 6:41pm On Jun 17, 2013
^^^ maybe but it isn't a state government house of assembly website (for which this thread is aimed).

Feel free to create another thread for sites like yours. Remember, the goal is to critique state government websites so it isn't like it isn't appreciated...just not here wink
