Festac town belongs to the Federal government,a property of the Federal Housing Authority (F.H.A)

These roads were built over 35 yrs ago (1977) and were not maintained at all until recently when the LG and Lagos public works fixed some parts which had little or no effect cos as one pot hole is being fixed five more are opening up beside it.

The LG can't fix all d roads in FESTAC (over 100 roads) and festac is not the only area under AMUWO ODOFIN Lg. Other areas need attention also

What needs to be done is a total rehabilitation or if possible reconstruction of all these "expired" roads and to achieve this, there should be a kind of collaboration btw the F.H.A and the state govt.

I think it will be best if the F.H.A just handed over the estate to Lagos state.

It seems Gov. T. A. Orji is doing well in road maintenance assuming if I excuse him from Federal Roads maintenance in and around Aba.

We have about 60% of damaged major roads in Aba that are Federal Government roads.

T. A Orji and Fashola share the same score in road maintenance.

Nairaland as usual a thriving hotbed of young people talking nonsense of which they lack knowledge and experience. You should only speak about something you know please!!

1970s-1980s: When the Festac project was completed,it was a beautiful model town,of the like there was none in the whole of Lagos state. From First Gate,Second Gate(Agboju Market)and Third gate(connecting to badagry express). There were Public telephones on "each floor" stairwells on most block of flats in Festac.Every avenue had childrens play parks with what we called "Jangolova" in the 80s.Then Lagos state govt delegated "all management" to FHA(Federal Housing Authority). In those days to live in Festac was a thing of pride as it was a centre for Middle -Income families.

1990s onwards : Disaster strikes= Drastic funding cuts,Poor management,Massive corruption in FHA meant there was no more maintenance. FHA official sold off acres of recreational spaces and gardens to wealthy new transplants to Festac. It started with a place called Cocaine avenue on 3rd Avenue near 322road. Even the wealthy owner of the young shall grow buses came and built there. All of a sudden unplanned houses and shops sprung up everywhere, with the attendant unplanned population explosion!

The power supply could not sustain it. The plumbing and sewer systems could not sustain it. Festac eventually became impossible for FHA(in those days)to manage. The Lagos state govt failed woefully to save Festac because at the time they were spending Billions developing what they called VGC(Victoria Garden City). All of this combined to turn Festac the beautiful town into a horrible eye sore today. Festac Town today is totally unrecognizable from the smart clean place it used to be. For me on a personal level it makes me very sad as i know what it was growing up.

The people who destroyed Festac Town is FHA. They are the major problem Festac residents are facing today. Shops are being sprung up every where and the transformers keep blowing every time. If you talk of clean environment, Festac is still a Clean town.

How much sense are you making here our shuld we just pass it off as humour?I dont really get it.
Re: The State Of The Roads In Festac Town (pictures) by ewet: 7:34am On Jun 25, 2013
berem: Yes, it belongs to the Federal Government. Amuwo Odofin LGA has it's headquarters in Festac. The chairman is not trying at all. the only motorable roads in festac are 41 road because it leads to the council and 21 road because it leads to the chairman's house. He rehabilitated the 2 roads and left others.

And hw much does the LG earn for u to be asking them to fix roads tht falls directly bunder the ambit of the FHA.

Nigeria: FG Committed to Festac Town Restoration - Minister

8 October 2012 , Source: Vanguard

Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Ms Ama Pepple has raised fresh hopes of presidential intervention towards restoring Festac Town in Lagos to its former glory.

Leading a team of officials, including the Managing Director of Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Mr. Terver Gemade, on an inspection of the sprawling housing estate recently, Pepple said President Goodluck Jonathan was disturbed by reports of the decay of the estate, stating that the inspection was to enable her team assess the situation and report back to the President.

The minister expressed concern over the collapse of the central sewage system in the estate and the total takeover by squatters of the buffer zone meant to shield the estate from the busy Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

She however expressed delight that the roads in the estate were being gradually rehabilitated through collaboration between the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) and the Amuwo Odofin Local Government.

The minister expressed concern over the collapse of the central sewage system in the estate and the total takeover by squatters of the buffer zone meant to shield the estate from the busy Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

That buffer zone is gradually fading away cos of the encroachment of mechanic workshops, car dealers and churches on one side and the road expansion goin on at d other side. If the buffer zone is gone, it could pose a serious security threat to festac town.

Are those roads for real? Somebody should contact the provincial leader to fix those roads quick.
