Three hundred thousand pupils from across 600 public schools in Lagos, Thursday, made history as they set a new World Record in tooth brushing.
The pupils set the Guinness World Record by brushing their teeth simultaneously for one minute across 326 locations in the state.

It will be recalled that the previous record of 177, 003 was set by India in 2007.

The world record was masterminded by Dr Lawal Bakare, a dentist from LUTH and my former classmates. The event wasn't just about setting a record. It was about promoting oral health and teaching the need to brush twice a day. It was supported by close up and Vasnet.

School isn't all about (cramming) books, it's also about building character, despite popular belief in Nigeria. I doubt you've ever glanced through a copy of GBR. You must have seen truly "senseless" records there. This record and the message it passes across makes a whole lot of sense.
