Ekiti Begins One- Child, One- Laptop Project
By Wale Ojo Lanre - 17.05.2008

All Senior Secondary School 1 students in Ekiti State will be proud owners of laptop computers as from September, 2008.
This inroad to educational development scheme was revealed by Mr. Gbenga Akinbode, Co-ordinator and Consultant to Technovision Communication.

Addressing journalists in Ibadan recently, Mr Akinbode disclosed that the Ekiti-State Government had consented to partnership agreement with Technovision Communication, a USA- based IT company, to equip all SS 1 students in the state with a laptop each.

He revealed that over 10,000 computers would be provided for the exercise with 250 of them Internet compliant already made available in the State.

Mr Akinbode said the one laptop per child was an initiative of the state governor, Engineer Segun Oni, who believed that Ekiti, being the fountain of knowlege, must ensure that the students were IT compliant.

He revealed that the secondary school teachers were already undergoing computer traning in the spirit of train-the-trainer for a successful implementation of the execise.

ONE SMART GUY IS GOING TO "BELLE FULL" AGAIN.
Is that the next thing in Ekiti now?. So what will happen to those laptos if they need repairs? Will the State Government be also responsible for this or the parents of these students would now be forced to look for money to do this? What about CDs, flash drives, are these included in the package?

To me this is misplaced priority, we could use the money to renovate our primary and secondary schools and provide more books for the students. Supply them with extra school uniforms(a lot of parents cannot even afford to sew their wards uniforms) to make them look neater and decent, give them free school meals to substitute what they eat at home! What do nairalanders think about this?

I don't believe this!

What are those kids going to do with the Laptops? More SCAM EMAILS?

Most of them can't afford school, food or accomodation!

What about provision of amenities for the people? Most villages do not have good roads or electricity at all?

Who are this guy's advisers?

Can someone tell me who this guy is? Was he the same guy who was a commisioner in Ondo State?

dont expect any less from a government where the officials now come to work armed with pistols and the house of reps convene a sitting at 5.00am, students dont have uniforms, furniture, books, and he reckons the first priority is a computer

Too bad; Laptops are the next important things @ Ekiti.

What a lengthy reverse back to take another longer way forward; If, there is any intention for forwardness.

I am convinced this must be a SETTLEMENT contract or the man or his advisers would benefit from this.

Where the light wey them go take charge laptop battery naaaaa? They should eat before looking for whom to fight. In a country where we no get road, water, light, food sufficiency, etc we're talking about lap tops.
