Use Groundnut oil. If you want it to colour, you use tomatoes.

In my city, (Essen) The duration you get depends on the officer in charge. But trust me, the women at Essen Auslanderbehorde are what we call (Awon Iya mi Oshoronga grin grin). They don´t smile and they´ve given students 3months, 6months, and some residency without work permit for not getting the required grades in school. The men are nice and friendly. But generally, Essen grants 2 years.

Other cities that Grant 2years in NRW are

Mulheim
Oberhausen
Paderborn
Monchegladbach
Moers
Kleve
Munster
Essen
Bonn
Hamm
Kresi Wesel (1yr at first, then 2 yrs afterwards)

But most times, the officer attending to you is the key

Nigerian customs will scan your load at the airport and will most likely seize your palmoil.

When u get to your destination, find Nigerian groups from anywhere in that country, I am sure there is some Nigerian selling Palm oil in Germany.

They can ship it to you wherever you are in 3 to 4 days. It's not a big deal at all as logistics unlike out is dependable.

I don't live in Germany, just have an idea how things normally works

Nobody in Nigerian customs will touch your beans. But buy ziplock and put it in that transparent bag.

Guys thanks for this thread, it has helped a lot. Does anyone know anything about uni of Koblenz-landau in Landau in terms of jobs proximity to other major cities and the lifestyle? I got an early admission for winter 2019 and I am trying to prepare myself.

Danke.

Basic foodstuffs to bring while coming in my opinion: egusi, ogbono, dried fish, stock fish, ground pepper, dried bitter leaves, crayfish, red oil.

These are the basics, bring as much as you can!. The red oil sold in African stores is trash in my opinion cheesy.

While cooking Nigerian soups here, you can always use spinach as your vegetable.

Abeg eh, this dried bitter leaf, won't they think it's weed and detain person Lol

I no use 1000 euro bro, I used the average of 400 and 1000 euros which are the two figures mentioned and the average is 700 euro.
Then coming to flight, it depends on your location. Some part like Nuremberg and Hannover even cost more than 300k sef depending on airline.
A bag of garri, dried Egusi, palmoil, salt, Ogbonor, dried fish and okporoko, Abacha etc (I for put ogiri shaa but make I just leave am to avoid public disgrace) coupled with all these shoes and clothes go near 70k.

my figures na just rough estimate not the exact figure. I never even travel pass Nigeria before grin

Broooooo you carry abacha How you take carry abacha Abeg? Thats my best food o. I've been racking my head on how I go do am!!!!!!!!!

Words of advice from pompido

STEM or no STEM, the truth of the matter is that apart from IT (programmers in particular) every other profession be it STEM or outside STEM need quite a bit of effort in getting a position post study.

My advice, forget about STEM and focus on learning the language well. Believe me when I say that no matter your program, if you have say B2 or C1 and can read and write german well, you will definitely find offers.

Even System and network administrators have it tough without german. I have many IT Security specialist friends that have B1 german and still being told it is not enough. I also met a guy that studied Law and Economics in English (very little german A1 level) but got a job as a research analyst with a startup in Hamburg.

So, what I am saying is that with God all things are possible but try your very best to be in the best position to get offers no matter what course you are studying.

There are guys that studied Economics and work in Banks now (Fintiba for example), someone studying english communication and has an HR internship with a big company (english only), friend who studied quantitative finance and now working as a business intelligence analyst....the list is endless.

Plan, prioritize, grind, learn and see success fall on you in multiple folds....

I need more facts about Kiel

General tips and some info about Kiel from pompido

Well, Kiel that is now a bubbling and highly remunerating city had less than 10 Nigerian students most of whom only knew about one type of work that happens in Summer (we came in winter) and so had absolutely no information about what else was obtainable in the city. To make matters worse, I combed all the restaurants in the city asking for work in my pidgin german/english but they all wanted german speaking people.

All that we went through brought about the paradigm shift that ensured that no matter who you are, if you want to start earning money from the day you land in Kiel (if you have the power for work o cheesy), it is now very possible.

Folks in other cities also experienced some hiccups at first.

It is different now, simply connect with people at the city you are headed and ask about work. Some places will have work waiting for you or at least give you an idea of where you will apply to and work first, then seek better offers later. Deliveroo and Foodora is an easy go to for most if you are athletic and can ride a bike.

So do not worry, so long as you plan ahead and talk to folks where you are headed, things have definitely eased up than 3years ago (just like BA went from 1.8m to almost 4m now smiley )

Tips for mobility from pompido

You can always go around with your admission letter or enrollment certificate if you have that and most bus drivers will let you in for free. You should also get a pass with the controllers with this. Just make sure you get the ticket asap.

From pompido

Kiel is a bit better in terms of living cost and the fact that there is an active Nigerian students association there makes life easier for new comers. The guys on ground will also help you settle in quickly and may even find something to hold you work wise if the chance and time are right.

Check out Facebook pages of Nigerian scholars in Germany (country wide), Nigerian students in Kiel.

The universities also have Facebook pages so you can search out contacts from there too.
