Herdsmen Killed & Raze Houses In Nasarawa by boron10(m): 8:57am On Jul 10, 2013

LAFIA — Gunmen, suspected to be Fulani
herdsmen, yesterday, killed three people and
burnt down several houses in some Tiv
settlements in Awe Local Government Area of
Nasarawa State.

Personal Assistant to the state Commissioner for Community and Rural Development, Mr. Godwin Mbatsav, a Tiv, is among the dead.
Meanwhile, this bloody clash between Tiv farmers and Fulani herdsmen at Iyordye Akaahena and Akuroko villages in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, weekend, has left over 7,000 persons, most of them women and children, displaced.

Nine fresh bodies have also been recovered from parts of the affected communities, while scores have been declared missing by their respective families. This brings the number of casualties to about 54.

However, in Lafia, Nasarawa State capital,
eyewitnesses told Vanguard that the corpse of
one of the victims, identified as James Orjime, had been deposited at Sandanji Hospital mortuary in Lafia.

The third victim was said to be one Mrs. Timbee Unzughul of Gidan Chiakaa of Jangaru ward in Awe Local Council. Her step son, Christoper Unzughul, escaped with gunshot injuries and is reportedly receiving medical treatment in an undisclosed hospital in the state.

The commissioner’s late PA was said to have met his untimely death at Abuni village, while
searching for his wife who was among those
displaced when some of the gunmen invaded the area.

Security source told Vanguard that the invaders, dressed in military camouflage, were on their way to attack Iordye village in Guma Local government Area of Benue State, when they fired on the Tiv settlements they came across.

The source added that they burnt down the
house of a former commissioner in the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission, NASIEC, Mr. Thomas Gaar in Jangangere ward, also in Awe Local Government Area.

Council boss reacts When contacted on phone yesterday, Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Assistant Superintendent Cornelius Ocholi, denied any knowledge of the attack.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Guma council, Mr. Frank Adii, yesterday, lamented over the level of destruction of lives and property in the affected communities. He added that many of those injured had been referred from the Guma General Hospital to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital for proper medical attention.

He said: “The situation on ground is bad, but we have been able to recover nine bodies from parts of the affected communities and they have been deposited at the Gbajimba General Hospital. “The situation is bad. We have a serious refugee situation on our hands at the moment considering that over 7,000 persons have been displaced since this crisis started and we have been able to camp them at Gbajimba.

“We need help because this is beyond the scope of the state and local governments. Luckily, as I speak to you, soldiers have moved in to Gbajimba, the local government headquarters, and are already mobilising to move into the crisis areas to check further killing.”

Fulani again...From Jos to Benue, Nassarawa, Taraba and Kogi...its fulani herds men killing innocent people and the FG is not doing anything, when the main residents of this states start their offensive against the fulanis that's when the FG would deem it fit to do something...I can smell fulani massacre in not too distant future in the affected states...SMH

tribalsatisfaction will not destory nigeria, wat will it cost the goverment to organize this illiterates into groups that can be managed, like how ranches are in America.
everytime they pass they are always trouble, but bbecause we have many of their educated folks in power, Government overlooks it.
am sure if it is MEND or any south-south or south-east group of ppl, action would have been taken

Am tired of hearing the tivs cry every time gunmen atack their homestead because dat is how they live. why nt device a means of defence since d state have failed to do so. organise urselves into cluster settlement and arm urselves like a fotress. colabo wt other neiboring vilages unda atack too. gather info where this gunmen live and how they go about their normadic lives. lastly d best form of defence is atack rather than wait like lambs ready to b devoured.

Its never due to illiteracy as some of them are more literate than you think. It's a grand plan by their elites. Its a pity many more will still die. R I P to the dead.
Re: Herdsmen Killed & Raze Houses In Nasarawa by monapeniel(f): 10:48am On Jul 10, 2013
What a pity. these fulanis cherish their cattle more than human lives. often times their cattle encroach the farmland of the indigenes of a community, thereby destroying their crops and means of livelihood. these fulanis willfully permit their cattle to 'eat 4free' and expect d locals of the communities to keep silent. the govt should act against these extremists who do not respect the fact that a single human being is worth more than 1 trillion herds of some rubbish cattle or else jungle justice will rule.

^^^There's a hidden agenda that has a political/religious/expansionist colouration, and these killings will continue until such a time that the Christian ethnicities in the middle-belt decide to fight back......things will have to get much worse and bloodier b/4 the aggressors realise they don't have the monopoly of violence and back off.

We are doing 'one Nigeria' if not i would have said that all Hausa/Fulani should leave all Christian middle-belt areas (including Plateau State, and Christian parts of Taraba and Nassarawa States) until such a time that they're prepared to live in peace with others and accept the fact that the land does not belong to them, and that Usman Dan Fodios jihad is over!

I'm tired of these people!
Re: Herdsmen Killed & Raze Houses In Nasarawa by thoth: 10:59am On Jul 10, 2013
Nigerians think as if their governments care, they should know that the government does not give a hoot to their woes, add to that the Fulanis rule Nigeria, they still do and they will continue to rule this country for a very long time.

For people that don't know , raising tension in the middle belt is more important than raising tension in any part of Nigeria, in our enemies efforts to force a breakup of Nigeria, so if people think this operation is ending soon they will be disappointed because it is just beginning and they will be coming back with more sophisticated weapons.

It
is time for all other tribes to rise up as one and drive d fulani

it so sad how these killings and sacrilege are being carried out in the land...
A lasting solution shld be proffered 2 end these unslaughts.
Boko haram, jamb and Fulani today...who knws the next group 2moro?
We shld all know that injustice in any part of this country,be it done to the least tribe,is an injustice to the whole country.
Its the tivs today? Who knws who there nxt victim would be?
Something needs 2 be urgently done as no tribe, religion or group has the monopoly of violence...
At least we can resort to self deffence when every other mearsures put in place is not working...
NIGERIA WE HAIL THEE!...

GEJ is repsonsible for this because he poisoned the minds of the herdsmen against their neighbours.

He made them still see the middle belt as a conquered territory and their vast estate whose farmalnds they are at liberty to plunder as food for their cattle.

Because GEJ is in power, they do not see anything wrong in allowing their cattle feed on extensive farmlands borne out of human toil.

Because of him and him alone they'll never change their cattle grazing style in the face of modernity, increased population, and increased pressure on land.

He made them to value cattle nore than human life.

He made them see themselves as having been born to rule in the government, civil service, farmlands,cattle-rearing fields .

He is responsible for underdeveloping the North over the years since independence thereby causing poverty which we are seeing the aftermath.

They see him as their leader and anytime they attack, he doesn't come out to condemn. He pretends he didn't hear.

He swore he will make the country ungovernable.

It is GEJ and only GEJ.

My dear they don't at all, they are also highway robbers and molesters, God help u if u are a woman and they catch u in d bush or lonely place,ur name will be "it is well"
The Govt needs to do somtin abt these animals cuz that's what they are or hw else do u classify pple who value their cows to human lives! Farmers have seen hell in d hands of these pple and don't wish their children to be farmers typical example of d adults I teach(MDGs adult literacy class)who always beg us (corpers)to help their children in their academics so they can be like us!and this poses great danger to the agricultural sector of this country!what happens when there are few or no farmers
God pls save us
