Nigeria was accused Tuesday of joining the ranks of African nations defying the International Criminal Court when it refused to detain Sudan’s president, Omar Al Bashir, during an official visit.
The ICC said it “expected” and “requested” Nigeria to arrest Mr. Bashir during his time in the country for an African Union health summit. He faces ten charges including genocide at the world court.
Instead of detaining and surrendering him to the ICC, Nigeria’s government laid out a red carpet welcome with full military honors when he arrived late Sunday. He was then allowed to leave Nigeria Monday night.

“It’s not Nigeria that invited him. He’s not here on a bilateral visit. He’s here to participate in an AU summit, and Nigeria is not in a position to determine who attends an AU event and who does not attend …

Nigeria is just providing the platform for the meeting.” - Rueben Abati

According to a source basir could not wait to deliver his speech because he was scared may be nigeria will give in to ICC on his arrest.Have u ever heard that ICC arrested any top american leader? It height time africa to rise up! If nigeria government do so,automatically another war will ensued between the two countries and this westerners will sell several artilleries to us,taking into cognizance that they(western countries)caused it and making our continent the land of war.I imploy ICC to wait till the end of basir tenure even though africa leaders are in the habit of staying in power for longer years.

Exactly! If the president had played along and Al Bashir got arrested in Nigeria, the entire Muslim nations will rise up in unison to condemn the President for being a 'tool' in the hands of the West. The Northern Elders Forum, Arewa Consultative etc will see the President as a serial backstabber and betrayer and join the condemnation train. Boko Haram will also step up their game to teach the president one or two lessons, the country will be plunge into chaos, the military will be further stretched to contain the escalating insurgency that will ensue and the budget will suffer for it.

It won't look good for the President on the long run ..

This shows we are not puppet in the hands of the west. But we most not forget that this same Al Bashir committed an unforgiving crime of ethnic cleansing against the ppl of s/sudan and as such, our govt should have discourage him from coming, that should have been wise enough instead of being caught up between 'Pharoah and the Red blue sea.

Well, it goes to show we are no longer a puppet in the hands of western country. But to avoid being caught up between 'Pharoah and the Red blue sea', gov't could easily had discouraged him from coming to avoid unnecessary confrontation from d outside would. Imo, that would have been a wise approach.
