Should they be granted Citizenship in African countries? And will they be accepted by the people? Even though they don't speak any African languages?

I am aware some already do. I was more thinking on a large scale. As Marcus Garvey had intended.

I don't think thas necessary besides the African continent doesn't have much to offer to AA's or caribs.

Nothing to look forward to really. Only the Afrocentric conscious minds would make the move looking for a more spirital connection to their ancestors.

Everybody else would complain of the heat with no airconditioning and constant power supply smiley

Not likely.
As morpheus said unless its something they can gain from it (economically) it wont happen. Africa has to sort its own issues before it can accomodate the so called diaspora.

Idk south east africa is notorious for robbing "repatriates". One guy from trinidad moved to zimbabwe (I think..not sure if it was zim or not but it was S.E.) where they talked all that good "you are our brother" talk only to rob him of his land after he had paid for it, maintained it and even started a family. When he tried to fight it he was deported and banned from the country.

Lol @somebody would have gotten hurt.
True. Africans from what I know value their land, last names and heritage. Some ppl of the diaspora wish to obtain all three and end up played. Now dont get me wrong, that one incident doest NOT mean all of africa is like that. Ghana and Eithopia are proof of that. smiley I heard there were some in nigeria too smiley

mostly brazilian right?

Yeah, the majority of black diasporians are Brazilians(mostly since slavery) but many of them have since assimilated with Nigerians, many married to Nigerians since the 1800's

So true.

I think people of the diaspore with a positive and open minded conscious should move to Africa. People of the diaspora who actually knows and understands African culture and their history and are not ignorant. Other than that...I don't recommend people of the diaspora moving to Africa in large numbers due to culture differences. Like what you said the majority will complain. But like Papa Africa mentioned there are some African countries hat won't come to a culture shock to some diasporians. Like Botswana for instance and even South Africa.

If anything AA's should give Liberia another chance, when it becomes at least as stable as Ghana they should invest and make it become the 'Israel'. The civil war in Liberia is long over and the country appears to be making progress, their culture is also very similar to the USA. So yeah Liberia should be given another chance, at least when the country becomes more stable and a civil war is NOT inevitable.

The reasoning behind my idea is that by the repatriating of the African diaspora it would hopefully contribute to the rebuilding and development of Africa. As we all know what the Motherland has been through historically and this is one of the reasons why Africa has troubles today. I am tired of hearing how poor and troubled Africa is. Maybe the descendants of Africa can do Africa proud.

Africa does not need anyone to help build their continent...they need to get outsiders out and unite with each other first before rebuilding anything.

How can you rebuild when thieves are stealing resources?

Only Africans can truly fix Africa and not African descendants from the diaspora. One way to fix our many problems is to allow we Africans decide which ethnic groups we will want to share a country with. The so-called former colonial heifers I mean masters decided to lump together various African ethnic groups who have little or nothing in common with each other culturally and linguistically.

How does the world expect us all to live together happily ever after in such a forced/arranged union? Did the british, french, Portuguese, et al consult with the African people before packing us all together like sardines in a can? Do you think Europe as a continent would be what she is today if someone (an outsider, a non-European) had lumped the German, french, English, Portuguese, Spaniards, Polish, Swedish and all the others together without consulting them first and making them share a country together?

Listen Jayvarley, go to Youtube and search for the documentary: REAL STORY OF NIGERIA by Jide Olarenwaju and educate yourself on how Nigeria became what she is today. What happened to Nigeria is similar to what happened to other black African countries as well. Until we Africans draw our own borders and create our own nations based on cultural and linguistic similarities, we will sadly continue to have problems.

I understand what u mean you are very right. Nigeria's biggest problem is it's large amount of ethnic groups that the British brought together without considering us the natives. we should be honest Nigeria cannot have true peace or development without us drawing our boarders and making new nations of it based on the ethnical similarities.

if he does feel that way he is correct
because we're not.

we are black (for the most part) but we are not african.
"african" refers to location.

You guys can't have it both ways when you feel like it. You are "black" in an American context and of African heritage in terms of other aspects of your bio-geographical,cultural and social adaptations.

If you lived in Africa, you would not hear the term "black" used very often so what are we supposed to call you then?

Well the sad fact is Afro-Caribbean's and African Americans did not ask to be stolen or sold into slavery.
Neither did we ask to be forced to speak English neither did we asked to be forced to accept another name that did not belong to us. It is not simply a case of wanting to have it "BOTH WAYS" as you put it. The situation stands as it is weather we like it or not. The term "BLACK" is used because we do not know the exact tribes that we originated from and to be honest by now we are descended from a MIXURE of various African tribes and peoples. So of all of these African tribes that we come from who's culture do we choose. The Yoruba? The Igbo? The Ibibio? The Asante? The Akan? The Ewe?
When slaves were brought from tribes that are usually in conflict with each other to a strange land ruled by white masters, suddenly they put aside their tribal differences and work together to survive the cruelties of slavery. Tribal customs and religions are no longer as important as they realise that the slave master does not care who is Igbo or Asante. In his eyes they are two uncivilised Negros who speak ugly primitive languages, that he will NOT tolerate or allow in case you were planning a rebellion. So please try to understand what the African Americans and Caribbean's have been through before you say such things.

end of discussion!! cool cool

@morpheus There is no country in africa called brazil, jamaica, afro. america, trinidad, puerto rico, haiti, panama, costa rica; etc. therefore we are from where are. Yes! Biologically speaking we have ancestry in Africa however, we were not born there and (except for few repatriates) do not live there so there is no way we can be called African. IF there was a massive influx of our people moving to Africa..lets say we uprooted ourselves and ALL went to Africa, settling there and having a new generation of children there THEN you could call us/them African. Until then *shrugs*

As the brother said, we don't even have tribes we belong to, do not speak African dialects in full and thus can't be classified as African.

its not about hate nor is it denial.
its just facts.

Funny how others just like you in the US readily accept the term Asian- American and have no problem with it

Wonder why they don't call themsleves Yellow Americans

I see Black in America has become an "ethnicity"

Jolly good then. I hereby declare myself "not black" based on this definition seeing that I was not born in America nor do I share any orginal language or culture as the "black" ethnic group in America.

Black = race
Nigeria = Nationality
(insert your tribe/ethnic group) = ethnicity.

@Morpheus You have not understood what has been said here. "Black" is something you will be called by whites weather you would like it or not. Whites do not care about your cultural differences with African Americans or Caribbean. In the white mans eyes you are the same as them. If you reject blacks from the diaspora you bring division. When "BLACKS or Africans are divided against each other the slave master rejoices. This is how slavery began by enmity between Africans. DIVIDE AND CONQUER!!! Do you honestly think slavery would have happened if Africans were united?? The Europeans did not go deep into Africa, they stayed on the coasts because they were afraid of the environment in Africa. Their bodies could not withstand that environment. Neither did they have all the medicines that they have today. So what did they do?? I will tell you. They paid Africans to capture their enemies and bring them to the coasts to be jam packed into ships.
Obviously we are not learning from this because here you are STILL being hostile to the descendants of kidnapped Africans as if we had a part in it. YOU SHOULD BE ACCEPTING TO THEM. They ARE YOUR PEOPLE, LIKE IT OR NOT!!!

You really can't see how nonsensical the above sounds.

In other words. African derived culture(brought fort by a mesh of West African cultures. and labeled as "black American" is the ethnicity. At the same time the ethnicity is a race and a nationality at the same time.

Go take a DNA test and find out what your original ethnicity is not your made up one. Your origins did not start from a slave ship.

I have done quite a bit of research on DNA testing. The DNA fest only tells a person a where a tiny percentage of their DNA comes from. So for instance if your Great-great-great-great Grandfather was Yoruba the Y CHROMOSOME would pass on from father to son unchanged for GENERATIONS. The DNA test would be able to tell you this. However it would not tell you where your Grandmothers on your Fathers side came from. As it is only targeting the Y CHROMSOME that MEN Pass on to their sons.

Also if a white Slave owner back down the line on your fathers side raped an African woman and had a son and that son had sons with only black women and their sons had more sons with only black women. The DNA TEST would still show a EUROPEAN Y CHROMOSOME AS it remains unchanged for generations. Therefore such a person may look 100% black and not be able to trace their Paternal African Origin or tribe.
