Anambra Ordered Arrest and Deportation Of Child beggars in 2011. by Jisunpack: 9:41am On Aug 02, 2013

The Anambra state government has issued a warning to all
street beggars, especially children used by their parents to
beg for alms, to vacate the streets or be arrested.

29 of such women who displayed their children as strategy
for getting alms have already been arrested in Awka and
Onitsha, and repatriated to their home states; Ebonyi and
Akwa Ibom states.

The state commissioner for Women Affairs and Social
Development, Dr. Ego Cordelia Uzoezie, disclosed Friday in
Awka when a middle-aged woman was arrested for begging
with nine children at various points in Awka.

Uzoezie said her attention was drawn to the spectacle when
one of the children who begged at the Unizik junction, Awka,
six-year-old Goodnews Sunday, was hit in the jaw by an
Okada rider, while he begged
.
Uzoezie decried the attitude of some parents who used their
children to beg for alms, and warned that after 72 hours any
beggar seen in the state would be arrested by the law
enforcement agents and the special task force of the ministry
of women affairs and social development.

This report simply shows that Fashola is not the only Governor who has carried out illegal deportation of Nigerian citizens in blatant violation of section 35 of our constitution. I call upon our President to put an end to this practice and defend the constitution of Nigeria. Obi appears to be a hypocrite in this matter unless, of course, someone can prove that the 2011 repatriation was done humanely and the repatriated parties willfully agreed to be repatriated.

U are always missing the point y?
Granted...,
It is wrong to encourage begging in any form or kind.
What we should be asking is how to deal with this malady afflicting our society.
Is it by shipping them off at the dead of the night to drop them at an unknown place eh?

I am an igbo man but I would always stand for the truth! I was in onitsha that very week when the deportation was carried out. Everybody was happy because nobody like seeing destitute and beggars litter the street. And I could still remember they were drop at the main park at uyo, even the governor who wanted to protest rather backtracked and promised to absorb them in his free education policy. This is an attempt by Obi to play the ethnic card in order to wittle the support base of ngige simple.

Whether any one or group of people are trying to make political gains out of this issue is irrelevant. Did any of the contestants in the Anambra election force Fashola to carry out his evil deportation at this period?

Anambra state and many other states (including Lagos) may have deported Nigerians in the past but that does not make it right. It is wrong, evil, wicked and inhumane to deport Nigerians in their own country. When the Lagos state govt did the initial deportation of Nigerians, including Igbos, yorubas and hausas, the uproar was not as loud. Perhaps that was what emboldened Fashola to now repeat the deportation with impunity.

The uproar will continue until it sinks into Fashola's crazy skull that it is wrong to deport Nigerians in their own country. The uproar will continue until Fashola apologises for his evil actions. Subsequently, governors will think twice before deporting Nigerians in Nigeria.

tommorrow there, if godswill akpabio of akwa ibom starts deporting miscreants and touts of igbo origin to their home states, their people go talk say ibibios are jealous of igbo progress and are anti igbos

If Anambra had already repatriated some ppl to Ebonyi and Akwa Ibom, why are they complaining that Fashola repatriated their own?
Re: Anambra Ordered Arrest and Deportation Of Child beggars in 2011. by rolchi(m): 1:00pm On Aug 02, 2013
Nothing is wrong with sending people to their homes, if they turn out to be mendicants and destitutes. Chances are that their limit to survival is enhanced when the are with their relatives.

However, such deportation must be done with high level of matured diplomacy with decent and proper documentation. In the case of Fashola and Lagos State; it is unfortunate that member of KAI who allegedly carried our the deportation was umnindful of the intricacies involved. The way and manner it was done is not accetable. Even in the exchange or transfer of POW, decorum is employed.

Lagos State Government cannot claim to identify 14 Anambra citizens and then bring in 72 persons. They cannot claim that no government official was there to receive them and then then dropped their 'vitctims' at bridge head and returned to Lagos with the Police Escort. No Nigerian conducts government business by 2.30am in an open place as the bridge head in Onitsha.

Governor Batatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) should apologise on behalf of his officials and lets move on with the Nigerian Project.

so akwa ibom state and ebonyi states are now ruled by fashola, i support deportation of touts from lagos or anambra who dont have any reason for being there, stop tribalising this issue and using it to leverage support for your masters party PDP.
