Africa Aerospace and Defence expo South-Africa. It is one of 4 bi-annual defence shows held in Africa. The other's Marrakesh in Morroco, Shield Africa in Ivory Coast and Cairo air show which holds in Egypt.

Nigeria used to have one, but it was cancelled after 2 editions in 2010 and 2012.

Our military would be sanctioned by the US. They did same to China recently.
It depends some contracts were signed before these sanctions went into effect.
For example the contracts for the Helicopters were signed in 2016.
No law can simply erase a contract due to sanctions.

Yes, prior orders remain unaffected but its potential orders in the future with the Russians as long as sanctions remains in place. I hear Turkey is next to feel the brunt for making an order while the RU exporter was sanctioned.

Speaking of which, Denel sold over a 100 of them to the UAE. Here they are in Yemen in a very puzzling picture.
No military uniform in sight. Frankly, wouldn't surprise me if the incompetent UAE/Saudi allowed a few to fall into the hands of the Houthis.

The Africa Aerospace and Defence (AAD) is Africa’s only aerospace and defence expo that combines both a trade exhibition and an air show.

It is also the only international defence exhibition and conference in the African region demonstrating the latest technology across land, sea, and air...

Really can't understand our Britisher cousins sometimes. Having foolishly decoupled from the EU, they decide the old Commonwealth will be the replacement market. Then PM May goes on a 3-nation safari, makes an arse of herself and only focuses on trade discussions in only 1 country. In the other 2 she talks aid -despite Kenya's Uhuru Kenyatta's valiant efforts to steer the conversation towards trade; I can't make head or tail what Nigeria's Buhari's intent was.

In the 21st century, the Britishers still haven't gone beyond beads, trinkets and mirrors.

Commonwealth total GDP = $6 trillion (subtract UK of course)
India = $2.256 trillion Will absolutely fleece the UK in any trade deal.
Canada = $1.529 trillion Not legally able to do any trade deal with the UK that negatively impacts any EU country (as per their EU trade deal, w which ironically includes the UK until nxt year)
Australia = $1.258 trillion Same goes here as per the stipulations in the TTP trade agreement.

That leaves about 1 trillion in the rest. Prey tell what the UK is going to export to these remaining countries ? Most of whom doesn't even have proper ports. Why would countries like SA,Nigeria and Brazil risk access to the $20 trillion EU market for a deal with Miss May ?
The UK is in for a lost decade like Japans economy went through.

Yep. For example SA. We have a trade deal with the EU. Why on earth would we sacrifice that for the UK's smaller market? And they'll need House of Commons Acts to instrumentalise every single deal they negotiate in place of EU deals. And current polls indicate that based with what they now know, a sizeable majority would vote Remain. Folly of the greatest magnitude. I wager another referendum in the mid term.

Well spotted and good question.
BTW, another AAD and another new anti-material rifle from Truvelo:

Truvelo launches new AMRIS 20x42 mm rifle
It is light enough to be carried in a sniper’s backpack but powerful enough to take out a vehicle.
As salesman Elardus de Lang explains: “it’s a much cheaper option than calling in an airstrike or firing a missile, indeed the fact that it is subsonic with a suppressor makes it an ideal sniper’s secondary weapon, fitting snuggly inside a backpack when the butt is folded, shortening the rifle from 1100mm to 815mm. Weighing 10.2kg without a scope it is easily carried by a single soldier, unlike the 1 824mm long 20x110m Hispano which is normally mounted on a tripod, weighs a total of 32kg and is served by a three person team.

The 20x42mm AMRIS is specc-ed according to the manufacturer at 2 MOA (minute of angle) accuracy at 500m with a range of 1 000m (ammunition dependent); its bigger siblings with longer cartridges have longer ranges, with the 20x110mm Hispano almost double the 20x42 AMRIS, but that’s exactly the point.

The fact that the rifle has a suppressor at the end of the barrel and fires subsonic rounds means it’s an ideal sniper weapon to complement Truvelo’s .338 Lapua, a more conventional precision rifle for anti-personnel targets.

Greenandgold, can you just stroll by and shed some light on this mystery?:

Lots of talk from the troops manning displays that the US brought an extra plane at night that was taken straight to one of the non-accessible to the public hangars and only special cavalcades are allowed in to see it.

Wonder if this is the P-8 that was said to be coming but never seen outside ?

Guess whatever it is is in the old 707 hangars

Over at http://www.saairforce.co.za/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9893&start=60#p120330
they've helpfully marked the only hangar the mystery plane could be kept grin grin grin.

One partially unrelated news...
ROSOBORONEXPORT, the main export arm for Russian hardware is under US sanction for propping up Assad.

What are the possible implications if Nigeria goes to Russia for weapons while we're still awaiting Tucano jets?

With Comrad Trump in office, probably nothing much... but you better do all dealings before the midterm elections coming up in the US, because the Repubs will be losing a boatload of congressional seats.

MINISTRY OF LABOUR ASSESSMENT TEAM PAYS VISIT TO NAFIL TAILORING WORKSHOP, COMMENDS NAF FOR REDUCING UNEMPLOYMENT AMONG YOUTHS

The Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment has commended the efforts of the Nigerian Air Force Investment Limited (NAFIL) Tailoring Workshop at reducing unemployment among youths in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base and surrounding communities in Kaduna. The commendation was made yesterday, 21 September 2018, during an assessment tour of the Workshop by a Team from the Ministry led by the Director, Skills Development and Certification Department, Mr Ibrahim Jibia. The visit was to assess the facilities and overall environment of the Workshop for the purpose of accreditation to issue recognized certificates. Mr Jibia, who expressed satisfaction with the facilities at the workshop, stated that the Ministry would endeavour to certify the workshop so that its graduates would be accorded the desired recognition in the labour market.

Conducting the team round the facility, the Managing Director NAFIL, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Bagare, who was represented by the Deputy Managing Director, Air Commodore Uchechi Nwagwu, stated that the workshop was commissioned by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar, on 8 June 2017, with the aim of domesticating the sewing of NAF uniforms. He disclosed that prior to the establishment of the Workshop, NAF uniforms were imported from abroad or contracted to local vendors at very high cost. This domestication, he said, has significantly reduced overall cost for the NAF thereby generating savings for the Service that could be channeled to other pressing needs. He further stated that about 52,000 pairs of various types of NAF uniforms had been sewn in the workshop. Apart from sewing uniforms for the NAF, Air Commodore Nwagwu disclosed that NAFIL Tailoring Workshop also sews uniforms for some major security outfits as well as other private organisations, such as Baze University in Abuja, whilst also training tailors from within and outside the Base. With a total staff strength of 106, comprising an officer, 37 airmen/airwomen and 68 civilians, the workshop runs round the clock in 3 shifts with 92 different types of industrial cloth-making machines.

The Brits have been overtaken by new realities so comprehensively those who see the big picture must still be in shock. Here they used to supply military equipment without tenders, unbelievable as that sounds. Our Vosper Thorneycraft,Hunters and Vickers 3 all came at that time.
