Since independence Nigeria has been practicing democracy execpt for military intervention, since then our nation has not undergone any meaningful change(thats my own view though)but in my own thinking if Nigeria practices socialism as a system of government provided there is a good leader as the head perhaps nigeria would be transformed.Example of countries dat has one time or the other practiced socialism are russia, china, yugoslavia etc.Countries that still practice it as a system of government are cuba and north korea(both countries are far more developed than nigeria). So do you think socialism is gonna make any meaningful change or nigeriashould just stick to democracy?

Nigeria is already practising socialism, through state, or Government control of all resources, such as THE COMMANDING HEIGHTS OF THE ECONOMY. If Govt control isn't socialism, something is wrong with the definition. This system has also produced brutal leaders in Nigeria as it has done in Cuba, North Korea, Cambodia, etc., plus CORRUPTION. I no mention any person name o.

Even the so called Hard-line Capitalist Countries have practiced Socialism at one point or the other (Britain, USA etc ran quasi-socialist economies during the World wars) and still have some elements of Socialism entreched in their system today (media (BBC),Education, Healthcare etc are still heavily subsidized and controlled by Government)..
Socialism served to bring the people together by putting the State 1st before Individual and that is why Newly independent Countries (Ghana 1959, Bukina Faso, etc) adopted that model...till date, this countries do not question their Unity(unlike Nigeria)!
Apart from Murtala whom I consider the ONLY serious Nigerian President, Other military heads of states squandered the golden opportunity Nigeria had to Strengthen her Unity and Social Fabric thru Socialism
Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba Squabbles wud have been effectively Checked in an Iron fisted Socialist regime (eg Yugoslavia under Tito)..
Hausa Student wud have been in Portharcourt studying and Igbo Students wud hav been in Maiduguri studying!
Everything wud have being geared towards the State!

Now we have Democracy imposed on us when there is no Cohesion in any form!

China is a Socialist Country that Worked! And it is Socialism that has kept that Vast Country from Crumbling into Thousands of Autonomous Countries (don't forget there r lots of ethnic groups in China too)

It is after Socialism is Completed that Capitalism sets in!

My Opinion sha oh!
