The truth is, a lot of Nigerians equate hardcore rap to long rant devoid of beats

Nuzo':

All genres of music should be given airing time? Why?
Are radio stations, Djs and music promoters running a charity organisation?

Listen, as much as music promoters has an influence on how certain songs are accepted in the society...its very minute. None will be willing to loose his audience cos of the likes of Mode9.

Now, who are their audience? Danfo drivers, hawkers, mechanics, wizkid wannabe, traders and tomatoe sellers (be aware that this group of people are majority of the population). Then imagine tunning in to coolFm and having some dude rap all day with big grammar.

CoolFm will shut down in a week!

course he is. I don't dispute that..Just letting y'all see your hypocrisy and let u know you're blinded by hate.
If Canibus spits a line, it is crack to you. But if a Nigerian spits the same, it is wack to you.
Now how do you xplain that?

i said that line was easy to crack , i don't see wats hating in that. I've heard a lot of terrible lines from lil wayne and criticised them and lil wayne is one of the biggest rappers out there will you call that hating?

You gotta travel into space to get it.

canibus is the god of rap.....
even though he takes it too far with his astrophysics and planetary topicals, he still writes better than the most. these are the pioneers of the polysyllabic rhyming - they took lyricism to another level. abeg, modenine is an ant to these cats....

First the right lyrics is,

Even if your flow is sick,
I'll disinfect you,
I’m special,
if you’re plugged in,
I'll disconnect you,

I wonder how that doesn't make sense when put together.

As for the other line. When put together, it means people talk a lot about Kendrick being tight, Cass agrees but what is tight about Kendrick is his clothes. LOL.

As for the plugged in, the media has hyped Kendrick so much that Cassidy sees him that is plugged into a MATRIX and believes his hype. Now with his diss, he will disconnect Kendrick and bring him back to reality.
timecop28:
Same Cassidy that said "U wear tight clothes, but your flows aint tight to me" on the same song? or "If your flow is sick, i disinfect you/ If you're plugged in, I disinfect you"

mode9 is irrelevant in the Nigerian music Industry.

He has no impact whatsoever.

His 00000000000.1 fans would do better than inflating his ego.

His overall album sales cant reach 100k in a country of over 150 million people

Make we hear word abeg.

bis is a god of rap - when it comes to extreme metaphors and punchlines, he's the best that ever did it. eminem is the king of multis, rhyming words that shouldn't even rhyme on paper plus he could make good music out of his kind of lyrics......

the first eminem song i heard was "brain damage" in 99 and i became an instant fan from the first verse....the multis were crazy and he was telling a story and maintaining the same rhyme pattern for about 6 lines.

Brain Damage,
Ever since the day I was born,
Drugs were what they used to say I was on,
They say I never knew which way I was going,
But everywhere I went they keep playing my Song.

Jay-Z is my favorite rapper but Em is my favorite lyricist. Hands down. Then Ludacris.

My favorite Em line is,

I spit on these p*ssies,
Before I eat them.

first verse on brain damage....

"These are the results of a thousand electric volts
A neck with bolts, "Nurse we're losin him, check the pulse!"
A kid who refused to respect adults
Wore spectacles with taped frames and a freckled nose"

the day nigerian rappers especially modenine can write intelligently like this with 6 multis - he would get my respect. this is lyricism - only rappers with an excellent pen game can do this.

the day nigerian rappers especially modenine can write intelligently like this with 6 multis - he would get my respect. this is lyricism - only rappers with an excellent pen game can do this.

What I like of Em is when his punchlines have Two meanings.
Like the one I posted above or,
You couldn't make this crowd,
Throw up their hands,
Even if they put their fingers in it.

More of MI!

4 horse men

VERSE 1 (M.I):
It's the sign of the ending of days,
I gotta still put my pen on a page,
How many times i got em singing my praise,
Thinking the infinite times thatyou could mind spit my intimate lines in a age,
What am i made of, same shit thats in a grenade,
Just know you can't pull the pin and be safe
Niggas tryna be brave got less than one sixth of a minute to pray,
Am like a ref in this bitch see I'm not in it to play,
Huh, The four horsemen, ha apocalypse,
I'm Mephistopheles, they cant conquer us,
When the stars align in its divine time,
You gon run in and punish you son its the end of mankind,
The fun is just hunting these cunts niggas they cant ryhme,
Loose tie your loose round 20 niggas same damn time,
Giving you definition of hangtime,
My flows disgusting, they throwing it up like a gang sign,
Meanwhile i break em down like an enzyme,
My team like a pig ticket, we been fine,
We do the impossible walk ona water,
Then take in a pot of the water walked on,
Bless it and drink wine.

Also what people miss is that there are shallow and deep punchlines.

That Mode9 dig my style like fossils, if asked the meaning, it means people are digging his style just as people are digging fossils.

If you take Jay-Z line,

I kept feeding her money,
Till her sh*t started to make sense.

You can picture the lady being fed money and pooing things that make sense.

Yet it means Spending money on the lady till she started acting classy even when miss behaving.

Kost rappers drop lines with just like. I am hot like the sun. I am so hot many people will need shades.

Eminem meant that most rappers are wack to the point that even if he features in it, the crowd won't feel it.

Could you point the lines you feel that pack a punch. I don't see nothing special here. Like Enzymes, like a pig ticket. Stars align that is divine, four horsemen apocalypse, take a water walked on, bless it and drink..
