Statement from the Atiku Media Office, regarding the reported registration of the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) as a political party

*

I'm in PDP, other parties are welcome – Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said while he remains a loyal PDP member, he doesn’t have the right or power to stop others from associating or seeking registration for new parties.

Following press enquiries on the reported registration of the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) as a political party, the former Vice President said he would always welcome the expansion of the political space to accommodate all shades of opinions or political hue.

While acknowledging that many of his political associates are involved in registering the PDM, Atiku Abubakar explained that he had no powers to stop adults with common interests from coming together to form a party.

He also noted that many of his political associates are equally members of political parties other than the PDP.

According to him, freedom of association as enshrined in the constitution is the beauty of democracy and that he wouldn’t dissuade any of his followers from seeking a platform to promote their programmes.

Political analysts recalled the active role of the PDM in the country’s democratic transition from the Babangida, Abacha and Abdulsalami administrations.

The PDM platform, which was founded by late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, provided the impetus for his impressive performance across the country during the September 1992 presidential primaries, which were later cancelled by the military regime.

The late Gen. Yar’Adua came close to becoming President, thanks to the formidable PDM structure. In 1999, the PDM was also in the forefront in the emergence of former President Obasanjo as PDP presidential candidate.

Political observers also noted that the choice of Atiku Abubakar as running mate to Obasanjo in 1999 was a recognition of the active role of the PDM platform in his victory.

Sounds more like: I am in PDP but waiting to see how PDM will develop since APC no enter me.
If PDM is registered and Amaechi of Rivers state joins and Niger state gov, jigawa state gov and sokoto state gov and kano state gov all join and assure me of concensus presidential ticket then I go join.

Otherwise I go remain for Board of Trustees of PDP because I be ex-PDP Vice President.

We will not win the Presidency but atleast 1 state and I fit become my own Tinubu, who knows. lol

Why would they not wait for 2019 election when majority of Nigerians will prefer a presidential candidate from the Northern part of Nigeria

Iknow the Igbos are talking but the Igbos will have to wait until 2027.
Also by then Prof Soludo would have finished 2 terms as Anambra Governor and very ready for the presidency.

Inside power: Atiku was never comfortable anyways. El-Rufai the same. always some kind of controversy.
Besides, there a way a 'man' looks for power (or even money or even 'women') that they fail to know when they are in!

Same rubbish different moments. Nice development, the more the merrier. But what I will tell Atiku and his so called " Associates " is that, no matter how fat a goat becomes, it can never fat like a cow.

But through out the Northern reign of this country oil theft have never risen above 100000 barrel per day. Under Jonathan( the leader of the oil thieves), it has risen above 400,000 barrels per day( note; this figure is official) and the government usually downplay these figures. Unofficial figure puts it at 800,000 barrels per day. Who is sucking the oil dry and pushing you to impoverishment among the two?
It is Jonathan that is encouraging every region to seek for power by making his minority kinsmen the most highly employed government officials in the nation.

Atiku should just stop wasting his time and money in politics, it is very obvious he is not relevant in politics. He cannot even win Governorship primary in his home state talk less of presidential election, he is not relevant in today's society, he seek personal recognition by using his past position to sing. Your formal Excellence, learn to leave the stage when the ovation is loudest. I think it is loud now.
