LIES!!! The last time I checked no biologist/bioscientist in nigeria can be employed as a laboratory scientist in the medical field. Petroleum microbiology is just an area of research in environmental microbiology, no oil company in this country recognises or employs bioscientist to do any yeye environmental research for them, they only employ those in the biological sciences as safety professionals.

What I hate about my fellow bioscientists is that you swallow every rubbish your lecturers feed you hook, line & sinker without any evidence to show for it, you see things written/drawn in your textbooks and you believe that's how it will be in real life (Nigeria). Its not until I got into the labour market that I began to realise that not all we were told in school holds water in real life. The comment you wrote above shows you are just a student. Mr. Man better wise up! angry the nigerian labour market is not as rosy as your lecturers are painting it.
mr man, alot of. bioscientist is gainfully employed in this country.i think you are misinformed in saying that no microbiologist work in the hospital as labscientist.yes i know that we have medical lab scientist who mans the hospital laboratory.there are some microbiologist workinh with them too in the? hospital as well..then u said biologist work in oil firm as safety professionals only?? do u know that oil spillage of ogoniland was control by bioremediation and other means.plz i dont want to start educating u and stop saying wat you dont know..the fact that you are into.labour market or not gainfull employed doesnt means that another person isnt.no offence!!!!

I should stop saying what I don't know?! shocked you just exposed yourself to me as an overly passionate microbiology student that has not yet started applying common sense to decipher truth from lies! For your info, I am better informed about all the rubbish to just spewd. Its unfortunate that many of you guys resort to insults in order to justify the almost misleading info your lecturers are feeding you. I will not respond to your naïve post again! Any microbiology student reading this should better be weary and take necessary steps to empower him/herself before they leave school.

The person that created this thread has gotten the message I want to pass across. There is no need for a senseless arguments with kids.

Goodluck in your studies bro! And pls heed my advice.

It is funny how people think and limit themselves with their minds. I am a graduate of plant Biology and Biotechnology from the university of benin and I don't have regrets. Currently, Biotechnology is being merged with pharmacy. As an undergrad, u get to do some pharmaceutical and medical courses. The areas open for specialization are medical/pharmaceutical biotech, industrial biotech, Agricultural biotech, and Environmental biotech. Presently Biotechnology is paving ways in the medical field and as a biotechologist u can further in the field of Medicine/pharmacology. Moreover, these courses were once small until people made them matter. The problem with Nigerians is that we are myopic and do not envision the future. Bro, if ur mind isn't centred on it then do not even accept the admission. Sit for anoda jamb. I chose the course myself. And before any one starts blaming it on age/constant delay of admission, I got into school early enough, made a gpa of 4.4.....and at almost 24years old have served and currently waiting to further in Biotechnology and Molecular medicine. Talk of production of antibiotics, hormones etc, biotechologist are at the fore front to mention a few. I know first hand that it isn't useless, it becomes useless only if the individual lets it. God bless
