APC Ogun Crisis Worsens by anonimi: 5:45am On Sep 04, 2013

The crisis rocking the newly registered All Progressives Congress in Ogun State on Tuesday worsened, as a faction dissociated itself from the planned protest over the recommended guidelines for the State Harmonisation Committee for the party.

The faction, which claimed to be the “authentic caucus” of the disbanded Congress for Progressive Change in the state chapter of the APC, said that its members would not be part of the state delegation that would participate in the planned protest against the guidelines in Abuja.

But the Ogun APC said that the CPC caucus had only cried wolf where none existed.

During the recent formal inauguration of the party in the state, APC leader and former governor Olusegun Osoba and all the Federal lawmakers representing the state in the National Assembly shunned the event.

Also, some members of the state House of Assembly on the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria along with some of their colleagues in other political parties defected to the Labour Party.

The APC National Interim Executive had recently approved the establishment of the SHC for the party, stressing that the committees would regulate activities of the party at the state level and the Federal Capital Territory.

Our correspondent gathered that the recommended guidelines would greatly reduce the powers of the governors regarding the control of the party at the state level.

The Chairman of the CPC caucus in Ogun APC, Mr. Oluwole Smith, at a news conference however described the planned protest over the guideline as “callous, unwarranted and undemocratic.”

Smith flanked by the Secretary, Mr. Godwin Odeyemi and other members of the caucus urged the masterminds of the planned protest against the APC recommended guidelines to retrace their steps and refrain from carrying out the action.

He said, “This press conference will like to address the issue of those who have been saddled with going to Abuja to stage a protest against the recommended guidelines on the harmonisation of the state APC Committee.

“As the authentic CPC caucus in APC Ogun State, we want to say without mincing words that this group in APC has no hand in the “rally” to be organised and attended by some people from Ogun State in Abuja against the recommended guidelines by the National Interim Executive toward the harmonisation of the legacy parties into the APC committee at the state level.

“With this our stand and statement, we hereby wash our hands off the unholy, uncalled for rally which we regard as unprogressive in nature and retrogressive in its entirety.

“For too long we have been kicked around by politicians who think that the only way they can continue to oil their wheels of self-aggrandisement is to keep us back when progress is being made.”
