The Senate had an executive closed session today in which they discussed the recent
happenings in Nigerias democracy and politics. Senate President David Mark announced this
as they returned to resume their normal plenary session. Sen. Mark read out letters from

Also in the chambers several Bills had their first reading and they include 'Compulsory
Universal Basic Education Act 2004 (Amendment) Bill 2013'; 'National Kidney Treatment And

later bills in the name of Sen. Margery Chuba-Okadigbo.

The Joint Committee On Appropriations And Finance presented their report on the ‘Bill For
An Act To Amend The 2013 Appropriation Act, To Authorise The Issue From The Consolidated
Revenue Fund Of The Federation The Total Sum Of N4,987,220,425,601.' This expenditure is
for the year ending on the 31st day of December, 2013 and the Senate approved it.

‘Passing this budget is the first stage’, Sen. Mark said in his remarks on the passage of
the Bill. ‘The second stage is our oversight function. We must ensure that this budget is
implemented to the letter. All our committees through oversight must ensure this.’
