Army plans five star hotel in Enugu to diversify resources
The Nigerian Army is to build its first 5 star standard hotel in Enugu as part of its efforts to diversify its sources of funding, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, has said.He said the hotel would offer alternatives to soldiers in transit while it would also be accessible to the civilian population
He also said the hotel would be built under a public-private partnership arrangement

Here are some pics i took @ the site......
The building is located along the 82 div. road at the top of the hill were one can view the beautiful land scape of the coal city especially @ nite.
the building when completed will be the tallest in the city as Eugen is well known for its sophisticus manner especially in building a complex modern residential houses.

the full gist is here

That's a good development,
The military training facilities are in the north ie NDA and JAJI training base and while their leisure facilities are in the south.
What a nice combo.

We sometimes have to eschew ethnic interest in commenting on issues here,
There is nothing like dividends of democracy here as the military authorities must have conducted a business research n concluded that Enugu must have been the best place to site the project due to the serene n central location.
Ur statement above will give the ethnic purveyors reasons to flood here now.

your wrong bro. i cant identify any single ethnic interest from the guy.the poster was just happy to see a project sited in his zone, he never abused any body or any ethnic group.
i wonder how some of you do annalise a simple issue like these one

Good development. At least the Army won't depend on the FG for finance at all time.

@ Five state hotel. I doubt if we have up to three 'real' 5-start hotels in Nigeria. Not even in Abuja, Hilton and Sheraton can't be rated a 5-star. Intercontinental is close to what a 5-star hotel looks like

And from that pic. up there, it doesn't look any different from the normal Nigerian hotels of square-like and rectangular buildings of beam, column and brickwall.

Good development all the same.

Hmm, Nice one, but never knew the army is out to compete with private sector in business. Soon we will see police building fast food joint, boutique, navy building shopping malls to diversify income.

Anyway, good one.

building a five star hotel doesn't seem to be to be the best idea right now, pls build more barracks or renovate existing ones, you can get revenue by aggressively producing military equipments as has been seen lately...other african countries will definately approach us to buy our products when tested and proven in turn serving as a major source of revenue to the army...

Unless they hand it over to credible hotels management company to manage, it will still end up as a haven for rats and cockroaches if it is left for the army to manage. grin grin

Fantastic! Back in the 90's the 82div Enugu used to have two gigantic 30ft gates at both end of the barracks, acting as a barricade between the army and the general public. Its heart warming to know there has been a mind shift from those years as the army are opening recretional centres and hotels. Kudos

The defence chief could have done better than this, siting a strategic military command like Jaji or another defence academy in the south east would have being better, btw I dnt like the idea of military competing with the private sector.

Military Hotel!!! I like the sound of that...

Imagine being served with military style precision.. As you approach the door, the Porter who is standing at ease would go to full attention, open the door for you and return to 'ease' position. And other stuff like that..

I agree with you to some extent. But at all at all na him bad. At least the Hotel will add to the IGR of the state and also creat some employment for the natives. But i think Ihejirika should think of setting up an Army school in Enugu or anywhere in the SE.
