In a Press Statement in Ibadan on January 21, 2013.

The police authorities have been urged to probe the strong suspicion that the attack on the Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero was orchestrated to prevent one of his sons, Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero from becoming the next Emir of Kano, after his father’s future demise, on the grounds of his mother’s Yoruba heritage. In a statement on Monday, Apapo O’odua Koya, (AOKOYA), the Yoruba self-determination group, said it has it on good authority that the attack might not have been orchestrated by Boko Haram but by a group of Fulani irredentists who are hell bent on ensuring that the Emir’s son, whose mother is a Yoruba woman from Kwara state does not succeed his 83 year old father.

“This attack is another way of demonstrating the deep seated hatred the Fulani hegemony harbor against other nationalities that are non-Fulani. We are convinced that the Emir was not the target of the assailants, but his son who the sponsors of the attack think must be prevented at all cost from becoming the next Emir of Kano at the demise of the current Emir,” AOKOYA said in a statement issued on Monday morning. The statement was signed by Dr Wunmi Olutona, the group’s Head of Northern Affairs.

The group said it suspects that the attack was sponsored by high profile elements in the North dimming the prospect of fishing out the attackers. “There is a blood-bound attachment to the stool of the Emir of Kano, a city originally owned and administered by the dark-skinned and less hateful Hausa people which was taken over by force of arms by the Fulani during the 1804 Jihad. Since that Islamic revolution, the Fulani emirate has been guiding the stool with a mixture of jealousy and high-pitched encirclement of the throne preventing the stool from biological cross fertilization of genes. It is one record that for over 60 years, the owners of the land, the Hausa people have fought in vain to reclaim what belongs to them.

This led to the formation of the Northern Elements Progressive Union, (NEPU) led by the late Aminu Kano, an Hausa person and his successor, Alhaji Balarabe Musa who is also of the Hausa stock. While there is a general categorization of the Hausa-Fulani by the media, a tin but intolerable line separates the two distinct nationalities which cleavages are bound to be exposed at the fullest of time.

Jealousy dey eat your liver. cheesy

As you can see, relationships can be sustained outside of a corporate Nigeria. In ancient times societies ally and maintain international exchanges through intimate channells. The breakup of Nigeria is not a threat to West, we have natural allies, our feet is supplanted in thrones outside our domain.

Balderdash, hogwash, absolute rubbish, baseless lies.
Genealogy/inheritance in Hausaland is determined through the father irrespective of the mother's bloodline.
Nasiru along with his other brothers and other eligible princes has a very good chance of becoming emir, his Yoruba blood being absolutely no hindrance to the selection process, which is determined by a group of traditional electorate known as the kingmakers.
Only those who are cooking this rubbish know why they are doing so.
BTW, the Hausa and Fulani have no problem between them, culturally or religiously, thank you.

Don't mind them.
The bigots cooking up this story obviously do not know the root history of kano ppl, majority of whom do not discriminate because they themselves are in fact settlers, its no brainer that they have elected non-indigenes as their governors, among them: Sabo Bakin Zuwo, Ibrahim Shekarau, even the present Kwankwaso is allegedly mixed with Yoruba.
Kano ppl are more open minded and accomodating than they are given credit for, where they may have issues with others is when their culture & values are disrespected e.g. by some southern brothers & sisters.

The Fulanis are not only blocking the thrones from Fulani/Yoruba blood-mix, they are aware of an increased agitation by the Hausas to reclaim their land and so they do not respond amicably to a Fulani/Hausa heir either.

Nonsense story, so because his mother is yoruba you think people will care? Kwankwoso the Gov (that has the power to change the emir) is also yoruba, did the fulanis stop/fight him as the governor. The propaganda machine under this govt is simply disgusting, spits

Nasir's mom is Fulani and not Yoruba. She is an aunt to the Emir of Ilorin, and the Gambari's are fulani. Nasir is not the heir apparent!
Re: Ambush On Emir Of Kano Linked To Son's Heritage. by MayorofLagos(m): 5:35pm On Sep 09, 2013
take dat: Nasir's mom is Fulani and not Yoruba. She is an aunt to the Emir of Ilorin, and the Gambari's are fulani. Nasir is not the heir apparent!

1. Calling Emir of Ilorin Fulani is like saying Akiolu in Lagos is Bini and not Yoruba.

2. Nasir's mother is unrelated to Gambari family and is not the Emir's aunt.

3. There are two sons, Nasiru and Sanusi, they both go with Ado on public functions and were both with him on the day of this attack and were injured. Out of the two, Nasiru is the only one that represents when Ado is not available for State functions. As protocol, Nasiru, The Turaki of Kano, is like a Duke of Edingburgh, and would normally sit next to the Emir in public but he never rides with him in the Limousine. No one rides with Ado in his Limo! The spread of his robes will make it inconvenient for a co-occupant in back seat, plus he carries his staff inte car with him. The chauffer, the guard in front and Ado, these are the only occupants in that Limo. So where was Nasiru? He was in a jeep sitting next to Sanusi. The jeep was bulletproofed. Two persons were earmarked for assassination that day, Sarki Ado and Turaki. The attack plot succeeded but the elimination of the persons failed.
