1. Right click on the portal site and select Page Source Information or something like that then look through to see if they used WordPress (wp ...xx), Joomla or Drupal Content Management System which is quite popular with web portal designers in Nigeria.

UI Portal Site was developed using Java on a proprietary framework created by Socketworks (cPortal)

B. Data size of the web/portal is relative as in not fixed but infinite since you can't really predict the number of users and even if you do then you must accommodate for future expansions or increased usage.

2. UI developed by Socketworks while Laspotech might be an internally developed site by school's IT department. Right clicking might give you more details when you look through the page source.

3. It depends on its proposed use and level of security required. Most use Java because of its perceived secure d nature but most other CMS described in 1 above are also well maintained with updates and are very fast to get off the ground running in no time. They're PHP/MySql based and Open source too so its almost free like Java but scares people since its community based (various modules developed by other developers) .

4. Socketworks. Google them to see the list of their sites. At a time they managed portals for almost all the tertiary institutions in Nigeria and some parts of Africa and are well established. There are other good individual Portal designers too who have one or two projects alike.

pls am about to recommend to a school, pls what is the software you used in making this site and
most university sites now have flash images running on them, i think it will be better if you put flash images running on your site.

@KING BEN. I didn't use any software but I program everything from scratch using programming language like html, CSS, Jquery, Ajax, Php and MySQL as the back end. Meanwhile, i will integrate the flash or slide image on demo site but reason I didn't so in the demo is enable it load faster.
