what i really think is that Mikel is just too good for a coach to leave on the bench, most especially with his playing pattern, even though not much of creativity but his confidence, control and maturity makes his football different from others, especially when there is someone upfront to make the best of his passes........ He can be a good player to be left out by a good coach. In the current Chelsea squad, its either Mikel plays or he leave the club.... He cant just sit on the bench.... and like you said.... it might cost the coach....

Mikel is a classical deep lying play maker

He has the potential to be as great as Pirlo, Xavi and Alonso (Notice I did not say Okocha or Zidane) . . .he only needs to develop that confidence to score when in front of goal

Chelsea should make the most of his passing ability from deep and learn to play through him!

So long as there are very mobile players in front of Mikel, he will find that incisive pass!
