The launch of Android 4.4 will coincide with the launch of the Nexus 5. Several previous reports have indicated an October launch for the Nexus 5. Early rumors suggested the device would be released on Oct. 5, back when we believed the upcoming Google operating system was Android 4.0 Key Lime Pie. More recently, a report indicated an Oct. 14 release with Android 4.4. Many other sources have similarly pinpointed October without a specific date. We also look at other Nexus releases for an idea of what to expect of the Nexus 5 release. The Nexus 4 and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean were notably announced in late October 2012 while the Galaxy Nexus and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich were announced in October 2011.

The Nexus 5 has also been extremely visible. Pundits believe we have seen the Nexus 5 on Google’s campus, in FCC, Bluetooth SIG and Wi-Fi certification filings, in benchmarks, and on video. From this series of rumors many are certain we will see on the Nexus 5 a 5-inch Full HD display, a Qualcomm quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, full connectivity including LTE, a 13 megapixel camera with optical image stabilization, a 2,300mAh battery and the Android 4.4 operating system. We may also see the Nexus 5 feature the emerging fingerprint scanner technology, which was recently introduced on the iPhone 5S. According to Digitimes, the Nexus 5 should be reasonably priced as its predecessor was, as it will target the mid-range market.

Rumors for Android 4.4 Kit Kat currently suggest that the operating will feature firmware support for many older devices as well as new, updates to screen fragmentation and Miracast Wi-Fi standards; and will also introduce new gallery visualizations and API animations. We will reportedly see an update to the preset palette colors and new notification widgets. But considering its continuation of the 4 number sequence, Android 4.4 probably will be a minor system update.
