I'm currently watching a Glo Nigeria Premier League football on Super Sports. The match is between Enyimba and Akwa United at Aba Stadium. Sincerely speaking, the Aba pitch appears to be best maintained natural grass pitch in Nigeria (outside the recently re-grassed Abuja Stadium). I'm really impressed with what I'm seeing.

I've not gone into the streets to look at other things but a govt that gets some of these little things right may not be as bad as some critics want us to believe.

T. A. Orji is a fraud and a criminal, he has being subjecting Aba residents to untold hardship, he imposes all manner of levies, duties and taxes on them without doing anything in return.

I agree with you on the fact that critics have been unfair to Orji. He's just hated for not doing as much as rich States like Rivers and Akwa-Ibom just because his State happens to be stuck in between. I've been to Abia State recently and what I saw wasn't what people show on Nairaland and elsewhere. The cost of maintaining security in Abia State is quite expensive and people believe that the calm in Aba has been achieved without expenses.

I must state however that I wasn't impressed with a lot of things but its just that he's not as bad as being insinuated on Nairaland. The Stadium was built by Orji Kalu though and the football culture in Abia was also developed by him.

That was why I said maybe. But a govt that gets some of those little things (but very difficult in Nigeria) right may not be as bad as critics say. Even Lagos state govt had to convert its pitch to plastic because it couldn't maintain it. I dont usually watch Nigerian League matches because of bad pitches but this Aba Stadium is good and a good advert for Nigerian Premier League

T. A. Orji collects infrastructural levy in Aba without repairing the roads and fixing the drainages.

Orji collects environmental levy in Aba without providing refuse bins and carting away the refuse as at when due.

But the pitch wasn't this good before. It is really a good advert for the Nigerian Premier League. If 50% of pitches in Nigeria could be like that of Aba, then the league would be worth much more than it's current value and will attract more supporters.

I'm also watching the match live and i think the pitch is an embarrassment to pitches all over the world. Even if the pitch is better than that of Barcelona, is that why we should give Theo Orji a break? That guy is an embarrassment and will go down in history as one of the worst governors that Nigeria has ever produced.

The Enyimba Stadium was rebuilt and the grass replanted to CAF / FIFA standard by Orji Uzor Kalu after the Stadium was denied the hosting of CAF championship finals which was latter hosted in Abuja.

The stadium was rebuilt and enlarged to 33,000 capacity with roofs covering all spectators. The serenity of that stadium was awesome in 2005.

@Op, You just advertised the mediocrity in you and all your noise about good governance are nothing but mere interest propelled falsetto meant to advance your manipulative agenda. You failed to acknowledge that Aba Township Stadium has been well-managed right from the administration of Orji Kalu. I am sure a well maintained football pitch is one of the least concerns of Abians. Kindly state some major developmental strides embarked upon and completed by Theodore Orji as you would do on a Jonathan thread.

So between the Aba pitch and that of Calabar, where the Super Eagles play, which is better?

The Aba Township stadium is bigger but as it stands, the Calabar stadium is more TV friendly. The Aba Township stadium needs renovation to make it compete with the likes of Abuja national Stadium, Teslim Balogun Stadium and Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium.

I dont know about other sectors but what I know is that bad pitches is MAJOR problem in the Nigerian Premier league and that this Enyimba Stadium pitch is a good advert for the league. If the overwhelming consensus by those on ground is that TA Orji has failed, then so be it.

2 weeks ago, on my first visit to Umuahia, I ran into some men in curious uniforms near the FMC who demanded to see my vehicle particulars. Upon my insistence, they introduced themselves as Ministry of Transport officials and demanded to see my MOT tax clearance. I was like "what the hell kinda crap is that?"
Like play like play, I ended up at their office, and they demanded N4000 (including the cost of inspecting the vehicle. Lol)
The guys wouldn't even listen to me. I don't live in Umuahia, why should I pay tax to the state?

Thankfully, an uncle of mine showed up and saved the day.

MOT...

Op, I would have curse you but I will defer it if you retrace your step from saying opposite thing abt T. A. Orji.
This man is the worst thing to happen to humanity, even chinwoke mbadiuju of Anambra state is better than this man. He carries the highest propaganda you can think of. Aba residents pay infrastructural levy where the live and where the do their business but this clown has not constructed a new 5km road in Aba since he became Governor 6yrs ago. All he could do is to patch few existing roads less than a km and he claims billion spent on it.
Imagine the number of buildings in Aba commercial city paying at least #5000 for bungalow while 3 storey building pays 15k, all these money goes to the state govt without any tangible thing to show.
Abia receives federal Allocation more than Imo State and Abia is a commercial state unlike Imo but go to Imo State and see what Rochas has achieved in two years.
Go to Obohia and Ngwa road and see human wickedness on his fellow being.
Go to the tail end of Eziukwu and see abandon houses due to flooding. Go to Osusu road too.
Ukwu Mango, faulks road, owerri road is becoming too bad while the former are worst.

Your question should be 'how many roads are in tarred in Aba'.
Aba has few tarred roads which were done by late Sam Mbakwe of Old Imo State and few ones done newly by Orji Uzor Kalu and Orji Uzor Kalu re-asphalted most roads done by Sam mbakwe but this man called Theodore Ahamefule Orji has done nothing new in Aba, even to maintain the ones done by the previous govt is extremely difficult for him.

Go to Aba and see touts. He has empowered touts in Aba through his son Chinedu orji . Dare not say bad about him unless you don't like yourself.

#####I can't wish my enemy state to be led by Theodore Ahamefule Orji.#####

as in there were no levies or taxes prior to T.A Orji's governorship?

My brother you're wrong, Once is not raining,Enyimba stadium Aba has the best club playing pitch in Nigeria since 2003. Orji Uzor Kalu when it comes to soccer is a real brain,he appointed Mr Felix Anyansiagwu as Chairman/sole administrator immediately an Abiriba millionaire whom was the former chairman of Aba North LGA popularly known as Owoblow resigned as chairman of Enyimba in 2001. Orji Uzor Kalu also built the Umuahia stadium to an average standard which was later turned in to a political ground. As we speak today,Enyimba stadium owes its nice pitch to Orji Uzor Kalu. Retaining Anyansiagwu as Enyimba chairman and sole administrator remains T.A Orji's only good political move. If you doubt me,go and get yourself the tape of a CAF champions league semi-final match between Enyimba and Ismialy of Egypt in 2003. It did not rain that day, just watch how nice the pitch looked then. T.A Orji is not in anyway a good leader. I lived for complete 10 years in Abia State working as a motor boy and later as a van sales man. Bros that man nobe better governor at all.

The said final was moved to Abuja because of lack of Airport at Aba. Recall that in 2005,Orji Uzor kalu wanted to host Nigeria vs Angola World Cup qualifier at the Aba stadium but NFA turned it down based on same Airport reasons, that was how Kano was chosen . On the replanting of grass, the contract was awarded to one South African firm to tackle the drainage issues of the pitch and also mark tracks for atteletes to run on. The pitch was surrounded by crude tarred then which was later removed in order for the waters to drain off faster from the pitch.

The Gov has done pretty well in the area of security, Energy distribution, primary and tertiary healthcare, development of human capital through various youth empowerment Programmes, infrastructural development...New essential structures like the workers secretariat, International Conference centre, remodeling of Abia hotels to boost the hospitality and tourism industry, the new high court buildings Umuahia and Aba...the more decent court houses the more judges the more jobs, the new Abia State library headquarters to boost learning and research, the Abia State Specialist and Diagnostic Hospital commended as the best in the entire south east and south south region, the new eye and dialysis centre in Umuahia, the new industrial market Umuahia and Umuahia Modern market to boost commerce and industry also to decongest the Umuahia city centre, the new motor Spare Parts and Mechanic Village at Ohiya Umuahia to create sanity and enhance environmental decency in Umuahia city centre, the new govt house Govt house currently situated in a private and rented property. A functioning skill acquisition centre training about 5000 youths currently. A new broadcasting House (BCA) building, a new JAAC, ASUBEB and Chieftancy affairs complex in Umuahia, A newly built ministry of Justice building in Umuahia, about 250 primary health care centres across the state, partnering with World bank to build Community Social Development program projects as demanded by communities in Abia State, A new House of Assembly Administrative and constituency complex within the HOA premises. A new ASEPA building, ASEPA is currently occupying a rented building, built &commissioned the Amaokwe housing Estate in Umuahia, Isieke, Amaudo and Aso small and medium income housing estates are currently ongoing in Umuahia, massive investment in the environmental sector...Opening up drains in Aba & Umuahia, provision of refuse dump equipment & Trucks etc. The govt has built numerous rural and urban roads in Isukwuato, Ohafia, Bende Umunneochi, Umuahia, Ikwu ano, Isi ala Ngwa etc including the 17 major Aba city roads recently embarked upon...Brass, Milverton, Ngwa Road, Faulks Road, Geometric, Ama Ogbonna, etc. All these are verifiable in addition to massive investment on security of lives and property. ABSG invested over 1.5 billion to evacuate power (electricity) from the Ohiya sub power station after the federal govt built but abandoned it. Power supply has improved in Umuahia and environs leading to massive boost in the small and medium scale enterprises sector. Umuahia, the capital city doesn't get dark at night as a result of the massive investment on street light project. Remember security globally requires huge investment and for Abia State to be known currently as a safe zone, massive investment is being invested to sustain the achievement made so far on security. All these and many more doesn't stop Abia State from having her challenges as a State but the good news is that those developmental challenges are being tackled with the funds available to the State without borrowing.

Governor T. A. Orji is presently building a new Abia State for the good of all. Though he was confronted at the inception by a monstrous breakdown in the machinery of governance, brea kdown of all traditional values of hard work, integrity, honesty, communal and self help spirit, discipli ne, transparency and accountability in conducting community and government business etc. He has been able to arrest these ugly situations.
Today weak infrastructure, decline in quality of education and a legacy of impunity are things of the past and no more in the character or identified with the people and government of Abia state.
“A modern, prosperous and secure state built on the energy, drive and enterprise of its people”.
This new vision was all that was required to under pin an agenda for creating shared prosperity through the development of desirable infrastructure, industry, agriculture and mutually beneficial linkages.
Tremendous achievements have been recordedunder
education sector in the state.
