1. Don't expect it to be paid back

2. Even if you do, Don't expect the full amount to be paid back

3. If you still do expect it to be paid back, it will never be on the promised date of repayment.

4. If you happen to be the First child (Male or Female ) in the family amongst your siblings ,money lent to any of them (father/mother or siblings), will probably be regarded as your responsibilities any way - one reason why they will not pay you back.

5. They will offer to sell you something or some form of ridiculous services to you in other to fulfill the payment e.g.washing your car for months or being your driver (you didn't ask for) for a period of time,e.t.c.

6. The same person you are expecting to get your money back from is coming back to you with more problems regarding money. Where do you begin to ask for the previous one. lipsrsealed

7. Lets face it , somewhere and sometime in your life this person has actually sowed into your life one way or the other and is now in need of your financial help. How do you begin to ask for your money back.

God loves a cheerful giver, always make room for increase, givers never lack , in all these one has to know when to draw the line and know when your benevolence is being taken for granted or when you are regarded as a fool for lending out money to relatives and not asking for it to be paid back.
Lay out your priorities before this same family members drag you down. smiley

Actually this was what i noticed around me and other close family members ,not really meant to be an advice or something like that. In many cases money given out to a family member to set up a business is not always expected to be paid back because the person is only investing in you and hoping you and your business will flourish and you can now become independent without approaching him or her in future for more money.

But if the agreement between the parties is that the money has been borrowed to you then its clear that whatever it is you do afterwards whether the business went belly up or not then it should be repaid back.

It all depends on the relationship between you and that family member and what was agreed initially before the money for the business was given to you.
