Microsoft’s boss Steve Ballmer showed high emotions and was left with tears in a farewell message to the company he was part of for more than three decades.

In August, Mr. Ballmer said he was leaving Microsoft within 12-months and thus giving enough room for Microsoft to pick a successor. It has however been widely speculated that Stephen Elop ; Nokia’s ex CEO who is currently head of Microsoft’s Devices team would comfortably assume role as Microsoft’s boss on Ballmer’s exit.

Ballmer has come under heavy criticism in recent years for failure to position the company in the right direction. Criticism got hotter with the release of Microsoft’s Windows 8 which many industry analysts claim to be a flop, but Ballmer’s surprise emotional tears as he said goodbye to Microsoft will soften the hearts of all those who want him out.

“I just want to enjoy this, all of you, soak it in, you work for the greatest company in the world” – Ballmer said while delivering his emotional farewell message to Microsoft.


Microsoft’s needs a tech savvy personality to prevent the software giant from premature extinction and Ballmer was more of a business man than tech geek. This has been one of constant argument against Ballmer, now that Microsoft faces stiff competition from Google and the likes, can Elop turn the tides around or will Microsoft need someone else; a genius to get things running?
