Now, we need to understand that an addiction is a soulish phenomenon. Now, we are forced by the society to believe that addiction (depending on what you are addicted with) is a "sin". No! Addiction is'nt doing something bad often that you cant stop it. The right and perfect defination to addiction is; "being unable to stop an habit". We need to understand this.
Overtime we have been made to believe addiction could be drunkeness, watching porn, smoking or anything the society frowns at. But lesser had we known that you could be addicted to Over-eating, Over-talking, anger, hatred etc. We need to know that over-eating is as much addiction as being addicted to drugs or sex or pornography.
If you are bornagain, I would like you to know; God isnt angry with you when you are addicted, rather He wants you saved from the bondage addiction puts you in. Thats why HE inspired this write-up.

If you want to break that addiction, all thats needed to do is;
1) Be Bornagain; One of the reasons why God sent Jesus is to break you lose of every bondage (physicall, spiritual and soulish). Being bornagain is simply allowing God take control of your being. Jesus said; "COME UNTO ME ALL YE THAT LABOUR AND ARE HEAVY LADEN AND I WILL GIVE YOU REST".
2) Renew your mind: This is the vital part. Addiction is soulish.
Man is a spirit, he has a soul and he lives in a body. The soul is that part of a man that consists his mind, will and emotions. When addicted, the mind is the affected part. The mind is filled with with some negative information hence, the urge to do the deed you are addicted to. The Bible cautions on it:
"AND BE NOT CONFORMED TO THIS WORLD: BUT BE YE TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MIND , THAT YOU MAY PROVE THAT WHICH IS GOOD AND PERFECT WILL OF GOD"- Rom 12:2.
Whao! Thats explanatory. First He says "BE NOT CONFORMED TO THIS WORLD". It takes the mind to be "conformed". It literarily means "DONT MIND THIS WORLD. So to you. To stop that masturbation, that drunkeness, breaking that pornography addiction. I say
STOP MINDING THIS WORLD ; change the friends you hangout with, stop browsing worldly sites all day, stop listening too much of worldly musics, watching worldy movies, dramas etc. It is not hard to do these, just start by regulating what you watch and listen to on T.Vs. Exchange the worldly ones for spiritual ones. Start watching gospel T.V programmes instead.
"BE TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MIND": Renewing here means formating. What happens when you format an info-loaded memory card? The answer definately is; all the infos on it dissappears. The mind is that part of man that keeps information. Your addiction is a product of these information.
Renewing the mind means formating the mind. Yes! Formating the mind.
FORMAT YOUR MIND How do you format it? Thats by consciously stopping what you have been doing and engaging yourself more with spiritual activities like praying, studying the Bible or Bible related materials. This is hard to do but, against addiction? You must endure it. Set an alarm for this daily. I implore you to start from the book of Proverbs as it relates more to the mind. Above all, make sure you hang around in spiritually conscious places. A church is an example. Make friends with devoted Christians. Especially renewed ones. Hang around people who like Godly things!
Change your shedule: Stop those things that aid your addiction. If you are addicted to watching indecency for instance: Stop hanging out with friends you share indecency files with, Minimise your browsing, stop viewing sexually explicit materials. Atimes Part ways with your browsing gadgets (phones, laptops, ipads etc.) You can do this occasionaly. These would help break the link between your mind and that addiction.
Finally, Change your life with your mouth.
Speak yourself out of addiction: The mouth is a very potent weapon to charting the course of Destiny. "Death and life are in the power of the tongue..."-Proverbs 18:21, Read James 3:4-6 too. You can use it as weapon to stopping that addiction.
Based on your shedule for the day, create a particular time for this practise. Focus the words on breaking that yoke of that your particular addiction. If addicted to self-servicing, you can say: "I REFUSE TO BE SELF-SERVICING ADDICT. I AM BORNAGAIN, I AM A NEW MAN, I HAVE A NEW LIFE. I AM RENEWED, MY MIND IS CHANGED BY GOD'S WORD, THEREFORE, I DECLEAR THAT I AM NOT ADDICTED TO MASTURBATION, DRUNKENESS, INDECENSY, SEX ETC (focussing on whichever u are addicted with).
