am a christian and dont pray to ever have to kill but if someone attacks me or my children in any way that can cause death, i will fight back. If my attacker dies in the process then its good riddance. The greatest of prophets kill one way or the other.

We are expected to forgive from a christian point of view, JESUS CHRIST when he was about to be arrested, peter started fighting in his defence, and he told peter to stop, there, he set the example for us. So as christians we are not allowed to kill even in self defence.

Shobayo Emma: but the bible says thou shall not kill without stipulating exceptional circumstances. Taking for example when one is been faced with bokoharam and one has the d opportunity of saving oneself, should one not?

Killing in self defence is approved. Allowing urself to be killed when God gave u the ability to escape is wrongful death( ask baba Fela)

the same God gave David gud war strategies to kill, also Joshua , sampson et.al...
For me, i believe killing in self defence is not wrong before God.

When armed robbers, terrorists, kidnappers, murderers endanger our lives, any and every means of defending ourselves is morally and legally right.

No it's not a sin, if one kills in self defence.

The biblical Israelites were known for their various conquests on the battle field, the philistines, the amalekites, etc.

ever since I was a kid hv known you can kill for self defence. some people don't read thier bible and want to paint Christianity as religon of confusion and give some opportunist to bad talk christianity.
Certainly it is wrong to murder because we are to love our neighbor as ourselves as the Great Commandment of Jesus Christ tells us. Christians should not have hatred in their hearts for their fellow man, and murder is an act of passionate hatred. Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder , Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, -Matthew 19:18 Skeptics and scoffers typically say: "So you wouldn't kill someone if they were threatening your family?" My answer: "You bet I would, and the Bible makes provision for that." The reason the skeptics and scoffers have such a hard time arguing against the Bible is because they have to open their Bible to argue against it. Killing a man in self-defense is not murder according to God's Word. God spoke of this issue when he gave the Israelites the law: If a thief be found breaking up, and be smitten that he die, there shall no blood be shed for him. -Exodus 22:2 This means that if a thief broke into a man's house at night, and the man killed the thief, there was no sacrifice made for sin because the owner of the house did not sin. There are many places in scripture that talk about protecting private property, and not just material goods, but also protecting your family, as well as the weak and helpless. Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked. -Psalm 82:4 However, keep in mind that just because someone breaks into your house does not give you the right to just kill them. There are circumstances that must be considered. God's Word gives us more specific details in verse 3 of Exodus 22: If the sun be risen upon him, there shall be blood shed for him; for he should make full restitution; -Exodus 22:3 When someone breaks into your house at night, you have no idea who they are and what they have come for. They could be a thief, but they could also be a rapist or murderer. Without that knowledge, you act to disable the intruder. If you kill him in the process, that is acceptable. If someone broke into my house at night, I don't kill him because I hate him, I kill him because I care about the well-being of my family. If someone breaks in during the day, you can tell if they have a weapon, or can question them to see if they mean you or your family personal harm. You can hold the thief at gunpoint until authorities of the law arrive and deal with him accordingly. If he were to attack you during that time, you could kill him in self- defense, because now he is no longer just a thief; he's an attacker with intent to cause you and your family injury. Notice that the Bible does not ever warrent a death penalty for thieves because if you kill the thief, then there is no one to pay for the losses of the victim. That's why Exodus 22:3 said "he should make full restitution." God, in his just ways, does not invite punishment on the innocent, but multiplies it on the wicked as a consequence for their actions. If a man shall steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it; he shall restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep. -Exodus 22:1 If someone caught stealing were forced to work to pay back four or five times what they stole, that would deter a lot of theft and teach criminals the value of honest labor. However, today, we send the thieves off to prison where they are given lodging and food, and the victims are left to deal with insurance companies, often times not getting proper justice and restitution for their losses. On another note, as a Christian, what do you do if they get away with your valuable property? You let the authorities of the law, as well as your neighbors, know what happened so they can keep an eye out for this criminal. After you have informed everyone who needs to be informed, you let it go. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. -Romans 8:28 The Bible does not say everything that happens to you will be good. It says specifically for those that love the Lord and are called to His purpose, all things will work together for good. Some devestating things will happen to us in our lives, but we are to stay close to Christ, and keep a watchful eye to see what good things will come of our strife. Just remember that, for the Christian, our treasures are stored with the world's: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. -Matthew 6:21 Some scoffers have argued that if the Christians are Saved, they should just die off and give the criminals the opportunity to live in that situation. Anyone reading their Bibles knows that a ridiculous argument. Where in the Bible does God make provision for the wicked? The wicked make their choices, and they must pay the consequences, according to the promises of God. Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. -Galatians 6:7 The time may come that you must defend your home and your family. As a Christian, we want to be ready to show mercy to others, as the Lord has shown mercy to us, but you should also be ready to do what is necessary to protect yourself and your family from the wicked. You do not need to pour guilt on yourself for defending your home and family. But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. -Matthew 24:43

taking a person's life in order to defend urself is different from killing. ''Thou shall not kill'' is the commandment, NOT ''Thou shall not defend urself''

As a born again child of God, I believe we are to Love our enemies, do good to those who hate us, and even pray for our haters. If some one comes to kill me, killing him will most likely take him to hell. I hate to think i'll facilitate someone's t.p to hell.

Here is what i will do, I will cause him appropriate grievous bodily injury. Such that he may recover later. If i have a gun, i'll shoot his legs or his hands. I may even take him to hospital afterwards and preach to him. But if I mistakenly kill him due to bad aiming or something, I think his blood will not be on my hands because I did not have intentions of murder.
